We applauded at Fulham in '23, we applauded when we went down.

Foxestalk is not representative of the emotion that the KP has.

Nah Fulham in 23 was shocking there was serious anger and aggression at that full time (justified)

People did applaud at the West Ham game your right

I think a very large % of our season ticket holders are almost casual fans. They're there to go along and watch the football without huge interest in the behind the scenes or wider context of the performance of the club. Sure, they want us to win... but I don't think we have a massively "invested" fan base on the whole.

It's absolutely this.

I'd also wager if there was a Venn diagram of these supporters and Beat The Traffic FC fans, there would be a large overlap.

Yeah most of the season ticket holders around me have been coming for 15/20 years, many longer. They never get to high or low when we win or lose and during mid week games don’t often come. They come to see their mates and have a day out. Probably actually a healthier way to do it, I wish I could do that

Surely we are the only club in history to have supporters willing sing happy birthday to the owner(my chairman!!) before a game, even Elton John wouldn’t demand that kind of ego driven behaviour at Watford!

To be fair to him he didn’t ask for it but still i take the point. I think it’s the demographic of the clubs fan base at the ground, very family orientated at home games and that’s what you get from them. Look around the Kop, West Stand, East stand, it’s what an old school family stand would have looked like. This is modern football. It’s so different at most away games

This zombie like behaviour is weird. Some fans seem to have the mentality that you ‘Get behind the lads’ whatever happens, otherwise you’re not a true fan. Seemingly not ever being able to criticise or show your unhappiness to the ‘Cult leadership’ on the pitch and must only worship them with glazed eyes through all circumstances.

I think it’s normal and healthy to show your frustration when things aren’t at an acceptable level, otherwise it’s endorsing it. I don’t mean being a serial moaner at every stray pass or every loss of course, and the players were deservedly clapped off after losing to Man City. But when they were applauded off by some against Wolves and many other occasions over the last few seasons when it wasn’t merited at all, it is bizarre.

The club is a complete shambles.

I'm genuinely considering not bothering on Saturday because of the disillusionment/feeling that I've got better things to do than watch it.

It's a sad state of affairs.

I wont be there

Family time instead

Same here - seat on resale (if anyone wants it!) but either way I've had enough this week.

But they don't. There's literally a group of lads killing themselves trying to get the support for the players going during the game (the only time that it matters). They don't join in, just sit there stiff as a board.

Then after the game applaud like crazy to show how they're the best fan. It's utterly mental.

Fair point and you’re right with this. I didn’t express it in the best way, but meant more that there is a certain type of fan who can never accept any criticism or negativity towards the team, or it means you’re not a loyal fan. Those that applaud the team off on all occasions, whatever has happened, in cult like adoration and frown upon anyone who dares to show their frustration.
But it is very strange, as you say, that the in-game passive fans suddenly come to life to clap at the end, especially after a woeful performance.

Thousands of empty seats and the place was quiet apart from the singing section. Another flat night to keep this forgettable season going.

Looked very tame at full time on TV although admittedly in a pub. It's like they're not even aware they're being taken the piss out of.

It's felt incredibly flat pre game. Unsure what it was

Plenty of reasons (timing of the game, run of form). Saturday will be similar.

Imagine the guy on the PA saying “the boys are in the tunnel, get behind the lads Foxes never quit” didn’t bring about the buzz he thought it would

I’ve hardly been this season for various reasons.

When I have, it’s felt flat. Other grounds I’ve attended in the past two seasons are the same, so we aren’t unique.

To put it simply, you can divide match day attendance into three segments.

Fans - Enjoy football, will attend to watch a game. Doesn’t need to be. Leicester fan. King Power wants these to attend so they become “customers”.

Supporters - I’d say the demographic on Foxestalk. Solely support Leicester. Want an authentic match day experience like years gone by. They’ll buy merchandise once a season typically.

Customers - This is what King Power want. Not emotionally attached to the team, however will attend games and buy merchandise. The more people attend once and buy a shirt, the better.

So what happens as we transition from loyal supporters attending, to casual fans and customers, the atmosphere gets watered down. However this suits King Power, as they can sell more merchandise to the one off attendees. They then pump in “game day” entertainment to put on a show, US style.

Shame nobody in the KOP could be arsed to sing the song for the Birch.

Probably asking who he was.

Guilt trip! Nobody's been "arsed" to sing for him for the past 10+ years. Only now he's ill again. Doesn't mean nobody cares though.

Makes no sense.

That is exactly the reason they were singing for him, as a gesture that he's in the thoughts of the fans.

Yeah I get that, just I always thought people like him should be sang for all the time.

Tbf I don't often disagree with your posts. Suppose I got defensive of the Kop criticism but it's fair as I am one of few that join in with songs but there isn't many.
