Hope you are right. But with Burnley it's the exception that proves the rule.

At least one relegated club has bounced straight back every season since 2019 and there was an unbroken run of at least one team coming back between 2006 and 2017.

Parachute payments are primarily responsible.

Not implausible that he could opt to use 1 or more of them as more attacking wingers, other than JJ, they're all handy pushing forward.

I'm probably the only one that thinks JJ is the one that has the most attacking potential then, as long as he gets his pace back that is. Genuinely think, especially on the championship, he'd be getting high single digits for both goals and assists if he stays fit

Personally, i've never rated him at all, had a couple of ok games and scored a worldie - but was endlessly caught out at the back, timing of his headers was atrocious.  When he came back from injury and was told to attack he looked like he was drunk, standing on the spot and staring all around him.  If someone comes in for him, i'd bite their hand off - i just can't see him ever returning to or sustaining that early form....

It is confusing trying to keep track of the senior players we still have (and for how long).  This chart puts it all into one simple place, showing the years left on each player's LCFC contract.

Tanner having put it in the Athletic today, I think it is worth its own topic.  Feel free to update with comings and goings.

I probably need to go to spec savers then 😅

You must have watched a different player to the one I did!

I agree with him. I understood the comments regarding Soumare under Rodgers, but I liked the look of him under Smith. You could see what he wanted to do, get on the ball and get us up the field and keep the ball moving forwards. He seemed to get constantly battered by people on here for looking unfit and not bothered, yet I thought he was the one out of that 3 midfield with Youri and Ndidi who was actually putting the work in. He looked and probably was knackered for having to do the the majority of the physical work due to the inability/lack of effort from the other 2 to do so.

He was also an ever-present when we had our pre-WC cleansheetwinfest.  The question is: at EFL level will it be that he's suddenly superior to his opponents and will play incredible or will the pace and physicality make it even harder for him to play the type of football he is good at?

the Championship isn't all about physicality any more, Burnley were a good footballing side completely different to the Dyche era, Soumare is physical enough on the ball to cope

Not for me. He can have spells in games where he looks strong, dominant and capable of really driving us forward. However, they’re just spells. On the whole, he’s slow, clumsy in the tackle and loses possession too much.
Needs to improve massively if he’ll be around next season.

GK - Iversen, Smithies (potential new signing)

LB - Kristensen, Thomas

CB - Souttar, Faes, Evans, 1x needed

RB - Pereira, Justin

CDM/DLP - Hamza, 1x needed

CM - KDH, 2x needed

CAM - 2x needed

Right wing - 2x needed

Left wing - 1x needed, either Madivadua or Maswanhise

ST - Vardy, Kel, 1x needed

Probably what the summer will look like.

I think i'm most interested in what will happen to Nacho - with Maddison gone he has an opportunity to get a whole season in his best position (#10) and against defences and keepers that are not up to the standard he has shown he can succeed against.  The question is: are there PL teams that can offer regular game time (or even as much as he had with us), does he want to stay and be a big fish in a small pond or to continue fighting for game time in the PL?

He seems to like the club and i suspect he'll be ok with the new boss...

One year left on his deal. I personally think it’s very likely he will be sold.

I had completely forgotten that his stated preferred position is #10

I want Soumare gone. He was more often than not, absolute turd and actually cost us goals by just causally jogging back to defend a counter attack. At first I thought he just needed to get up to speed or get fitter, but it turned out he just didn't want to track back with any great intensity. I think English football is too fast paced for him and he hasn't shown the desire to dig in and do his defensive duties. Same can be said for Tielemans. I would much prefer to have x2 less skilled, but much harder working CMs than these two.

I suspect so - but i suppose this is why i feel he's one of the more interesting cases.  I guess a lot will come down to what Maresca thinks and says to him - but of all the players nearing the end of their contracts it feels like he's one of the ones likely to be offered a new deal, and also seems like the kind of chap that might understand what a good opportunity this could be - to get a run at some EFL teams, i'd hope he could have a 20+ goal season, and if that resulted in promotion, he'd go back to the PL in a strong position.  The alternative - who do we really see coming in for him, and what are the chances of him feeling he'll get regular football unless it's at bournemouth or luton or similar?

To be fair though - name one played who didn't cost us goals last season?
