Yeah, why IS Kristiansen in the squad. He's on a season long loan to Bologna - Luke Thomas and Lewis Brunt aren't in and they're on a similar season long contract.

Yes, same for all on the U21 list, they can play in any of our senior games.

I find the whole 25-man squad thing weird - I get why they do it in time with the transfer window but technically, couldn't Smithies have played in one of our first 5 games and then been left out the squad. Wonder if there's any player in the league that's made an appearance in the league but now isn't officially part of their 25-man squad and now can't play.

Probably embarrassing enough having to explain why a goalkeeper on 40 odd grand a week is 4th choice without having to answer questions about him not being registered.

Kristiansen can be named on the under 21 list

 

Luke Thomas would have to take up a space in the 25 man squad

...Yes, as can the U21s if they are deemed good enough!!!

Each club is able to list up to 17 senior players that are not English or Welsh and did not spend a significant period in an English or Welsh academy, plus any number of homegrown players up to a maximum squad size of 25, plus an unlimited number of academy and under-21 players.

OK, thanks for putting me right on Thomas, but Lewis Brunt isn't there - and he's on a season long loan (at Mansfield). Perhaps he's 21 now - he has been around a while!?

This is what I never understand. Why have a 25 squad limit, when you can use players from the U21 list? Is it a roundabout way of making sure clubs hire young players as backup?

I suppose it's a way to stop clubs stockpiling lots of players and like you say, ensure that clubs can make opportunities for their academy prospects without having to have them register or if there's an emergency situation where they need a 5th choice GK from the academy for example.

Yeah he is 22, as is Opoku

 

Zach Booth who is 19 and out on loan has been put on the u21 list as well

That's what crossed my mind, but this squad is only until January anyway. IF Kristiansen came back in Jan, he could be registered then.

Not signing an actual goalkeeper to replace Kasper was one of the stupidest, costly decisions this club has made in years.

...so far as keepers are concerned, we do seem clueless about bringing them in!!!

Our current Keeper looks okay, but he is still new to the league and country.

Ironically, having seen Ward’s season with Huddersfield and of course us, plus seeing Smithies play a bit for QPR, our put the cones out goalkeeper is better than the bloke who played the majority of games for us last season.

Yep, we would have stayed up with a decent GK. If we'd just bought a better GK in the January transfer window instead of all the other transfers, we'd have stayed up. 

 

But at least we've appeared to learn our lesson.
