Just like with European rugby and when they went with the Swiss format, the knockouts on paper look boring because they have so many repeat fixtures (domestically or already within the competition in the group stage)

I'm not particularly averse to it because I find the same country semis/finals incredibly boring, so if they can get them out the way early doors then that's good in my opinion.

I think it just really stands out because we don't usually see it.

Personally I am the other way. I don't mind it when you have semi's or a final because of what's on the line.

You start to build the rivalries you often find in American Sports with their best of 7 type formats.

Take the 2016 CL final between Real & Atleti, that was built up by them being competitively pitched repeatedly against each other.

Atleti winning the league in 13/14

CL 2014 Final

CL 14/15 - Played each other in the Quarter-Finals

15/16 La Liga - incredible title race of Barca 91, Real 90, Atleti 88

CL 2016 Final

I think I'm scarred by that abomination in 2019, Liverpool v Spurs, it was played like a pre season friendly.

Spurs typically bottled it .

Villa want revenge on Brugge .

No doubt Real Madrid will win again.

Villa will probably take the draw if they cannot win .

Just seen the Arsenal team - not sure how they will get many chances going by recent games but and PSV will attack them .

Real to beat their Madrid neighbours?

The home side finally score !

Unfortunately in the wrong end from their point of view .

Villa will feel fortunate there .

Now give away a penalty which is converted.

When I see the amount of ground that atletico players cover and the sheer sprinting they do to close gaps or catch up to their opponent - WOW!

contrast that with some our OAP’s at Lester who barely walk or jog back to defend. What a contrast. I thought players are taught to run their asses off at academy level.

What's more impressive is that they cover this ground while they're not allowed by Simeone to have more than 3 touches on the ball.

2-1 down but they're clearly the better team by miles.
