How Leverkusen hold key to Premier League's centre-back market

Latest from Sky Sports News' Lyall Thomas:

There is quite an interesting situation in the Premier League centre-back market at the moment – but German club Bayer Leverkusen appear to be at the heart of it.

They need to offload one of either Edmond Tapsoba, Jonathan Tah or Odilon Kossounou in order to try to complete the signing of Sepp van den Berg from Liverpool.

Sky Sports News has been told Kossounou has been offered to Premier League clubs, including Wolves and Leicester.

However, Wolves remain in talks with Burnley over the signing of Dara O'Shea and Leicester are focussing on strengthening higher up the pitch.

How does this work? Does somebody from the selling club ring us up and say, "Hey Jon - you won't believe this but I've got an absolutely primo centre half I need to find a home for. Trust me, this guy will go quickly but I'm offering him to you first for a very modest sum of £15m...."

Jon is the sort of person not to answer the phone if he doesn’t recognise the number

Why are Bayer even considering selling one of them lol

No need to pay Liverpool for that amount when those 3 they already have are more than good enough.

Jon’s still sending money to at least 3 Nigerian princes. As per the Musa deal.

Why would we go for the worst one out of the three too? Tah or Tapsoba much better.

Probably because the other pair would never entertain coming to us I'd imagine!

From first impressions he seems better than what we've got, but would mean we have far too many centre backs.

I doubt this is true but if it is, Okoli is already feeling like a bust (mad to say about somebody who hasn't played a game!).

Tapsoba was actually lined up in the window we ended up signing Ryan Bennett. True story lol
