It's known as Nottingham still on Skyscanner and Google searches and flight radar. Which annoys tf out of me.

But even so, yes, only relevant IF someone in, say, Germany knew East Mids was near to Nottingham. I suppose it's like me having to check a West Galway or Upper Friesland airport to see if that's good for Cork or Hamburg or whatever.

Nottingham-Leicester does make sense. Both (sadly now them too) are known European or worldwide as a direct result of the PL. In France and Ireland, because of the Rugby. Derby can do one. Loughborough is better known.

Derby is actually pretty well known in several sectors due to Rolls Royce sadly

Hmmm, I'm not convinced.

I get Rolls Royce is famous but it's not associated with Derby in the way that, say, Portsmouth is with the Royal Navy. Tbh I doubt 99% of people in the UK would say Rolls is based in. Derby.

I can imagine the reaction if I was in Vietnam, South Africa or Barbados and I'd say I was from Derby. I think nonplussed would be the word

The lack of commercial demand into the airport the problem perhaps?

Calling it Nottingham-Leicester airport probably makes more sense to Europeans flying in, EMA makes sense to locals but we already know if it.

99% of British people wouldn’t be able to point to any airports named after regions (or people) in Europe.

It’s also completely typical of Leics’ rail connectivity that EMA parkway isn’t even close to it.

Equally, a direct rail link to BHX from Leicester would be useful.

Im landing at BHX in a few hours (pray the fog stays away…) It’s rail link from airport to BHX station, train to new street then train to Leicester. Annoying but a lot of ‘airport rail stations’ are a faff to get to from the actual airport. Luton charge >£4 to go on their poxy monorail from airport to parkway station

You'd be better taxi to Coleshill Parkway for a £10, pick the train up from there.

Meant more that it gets a fair few business travelers for a city its size due to RR more than that the airport should be named after it tbf

Will be on a flight due to arrive into EMA at 1 am in a couple weeks. To get back to Leicester, is it easy to get an Uber from there at that time of night, or is it best to prebook with a taxi company (although not sure the exact time we'd get out)?

There’s a taxi kiosk near Greggs upon entering Arrivals

Was there today, the winter refurb is looking decent, lounge is much better and security is upgraded. You can no longer pay the £5 drop off charge at the gate upon exit, you have to go online and pay within 24 hrs. Money grabbing rats.

I have done an Uber back home from ema, a bargain 30 quid, but at 1am, I ain't so sure. It's more or less reliant on someone being dropped off there for a driver to accept the fare.

Maybe do a dummy booking one night and see what comes up?

As others have said,  just get the bus. 3 quid ffs. It's an hour's journey but for 3 quid, no complaints at all.

There's 4 of us and we'd probably have to get a further taxi from St Margaret's if we took the bus, making the overall cost not far off 30 quid. Will have a look tonight on the app, thanks.

I'm sure I went direct to Phuket from EM in 2018

Didn't know they do such long-haul flights like that.

Always thought that they mainly operated towards European destinations.

Unlikely.

One of a number of new routes available from East Midlands Airport has instantly become the furthest destination, at 2,793 miles away.

Boa Vista, one of the largest of the Cape Verde islands in the Atlantic Ocean west of Senegal, is a new destination that TUI has launched from East Midlands Airport, with twice-weekly flights getting underway from the beginning of May through to the end of October.
