Indeed, but without her we would have different problems and a smaller economy to pay for it.

I think it is the deep seated social issues and the utilities sold off cheap with no benefit to the country that are the main charges.

We had deep seated social issues before Thatcher, but yes I don't disagree.  The reason the utilities were sold off cheap is because they had decades of massive underinvestment which would have otherwise had to be funded through taxation.  The mistake I think has been to allow them to be sold to foreign companies which has zero social contract with their customers.  That said I now live with state owned power and water and it certainly has it's benefits.

We have state owned water in this country and it performs at a similar level to the privatised water companies, albeit they aren't as closely monitored as they are Scottish and Welsh water. I suspect that were they monitored as they are in England they would be the lower performers.

Instead of taxation we've paid for it since with increased charges and still massive underdevelopment.

Quick question.

 

When your supposedly state-of-the-art weaponry doesn't go where it's supposed to and ends up in the middle of a wedding ceremony, resulting in a few deaths and many injuries of those involved... does the "Oh shit, sorry, we really didn't mean it?!" defence mean a lot or not much?
