Hilariously, most of the people in Dover hiding their faces "protesting" would 100% unironically back a ban on Muslim women wearing any kind of face covering.

I mean I pretty open minded about things. I would say I’m not really a fan of burkas purely for the reason that I do think faces should be visible. It’s not something that bothers me or I ever give a second thought to really though. Hijabs and headscarves look very smart I think.

But the irony as you say, of the people who the above actually bothers, running around wearing balaclavas!

What face covering actually indicates someone has wrong intentions and is likely to be engaging in illegal activity/intimidating others…

I think to suggest all face coverings are a concern as @kenny has indicated and as I have said shows that the is a consistent and legitimate reason for saying this. Whereas to target Muslim women for it whilst wearing a balaclava completely removes any argument of fair reasoning and points towards one thing…

Have no problem seeing women wearing the various religious face coverings because at the end of the day it doesn’t impact my life.

My only concern is whether they actually want to be wearing them.. but again doesn’t really impact me does it

Argentina couldn’t retake the Falklands today if it tried.
Zero active subs, an aging fleet, and zero air-refueling capability to get their newly acquired F-16s to the islands and back.
Meanwhile, Britain has 1,500 troops, Sky Sabre air defence, and 4 Typhoons on Quick Reaction Alert at Mount Pleasant.
It’s not 1982 anymore, the UK built an unsinkable fortress, and Argentina lacks the power projection to even approach it.
Despite suggesting the US might withhold support, the UK requires zero American assistance to defend the Falkland Islands

Yeah all face coverings need banning when it comes to protests like this.

Ill be honest ive usually associated it more with the Left and Antifa but either side it needs stopping

What I always find funny about far right willy pullers like this is, if they're so convinced they're morally in the right and they have nothing to feel ashamed about, why do they always hide their faces?

****ing cowards. You believe in being a Nazi, at least

Away from the fun of Reform taking the attention off their party conference by organising a "protest" at Dover with all their ski mask idiots, why is Michael Owen always so weird?

BBC News - Michael Owen doesn't tell his children he loves them - how big a deal is that?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cddvep5vj7mo

I don't think it's that weird. I can't remember my dad ever saying I love you, but you knew it.

Actions speak louder than words and now that I think of it, the people whom I most commonly see telling their kids they love them, often don't show it in their actions.

Ditto the thugs at every other protest from pro-Palestinian to trans activists.  Its almost like they are there for a fight and to be able to throw horrible abuse the other party with no accountability.

Yes they would struggle to project power that far, while we could get more troops and planes there within 24 hours if need be.  Its a direct 15 hour flight, with Fighter Jets obviously needing to refuel.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if there were people who turn up for both pro-Palestine and pro-Israel demos.

Some people just like a bit of agro, not bothered about a cause.

No Harriers any more, but the RAF now has F-35b fighters that perform a similar purpose and can land and take-off in places other fighters can't operate.

Argentina have 24 second-hand f-16s, a 1970s designed aircraft. They have no bombers.

I think the people of Stanley can sleep at night.

I'm not sure I disagree with people wearing face coverings at protests.

In this day and age, your face can get plastered around social media, sent to your employer etc to try and get you sacked, or used to identify you to post your address or personal details.

I think people should generally have a right to peaceful protest (the Dover protest was peaceful and orderly) without being identified.

If this line of argument is true, then it follows that in order to be consistent it would also have to hold true for every single political cause that exists.

Yes I think I'm in agreement. As facial recognition technology and CCTV expands further I think the right to anonymity while protesting could become more important.

I don't think it's too much of a stretch to imagine a future where the Government uses such technology to sanction people attending protests it doesn't agree with even if they're lawful and no crime is committed.

Fair enough.

In that case, I don't expect to hear a peep from the people involved at Dover and those who back them when a group gets masked up and blocks a road for the sake of drawing attention to increasing global average temperature or sits down in a public place regarding events in the Middle East, then. Though judging by previous history on that I'm not holding my breath.

In other news, Farage given at least something of a grilling by Laura K regarding recent revelations, squirmed a bit while pleading ignorance.

Laughable. Why do people still follow this worm? (Not you @leicsmac, just wanted to make the clear :D

Ah here we go. I was waiting for "both sides are just the same" etc.

There are very obviously people that go to pretty much any demonstration, whatever their politics, and cover their face because they either think they're looking edgy or cool or because they fear the legal backlash from an authoritarian state.

There are also dick heads that go to literally any public gathering or demonstration to cause violence or problems because they're just nobs, whatever they believe in. Sure.

But there's a big difference between some people in a crowd wrapping a bandana on their face or putting on a covid mask and a large organised mob turning up in a fascist coded uniform that completely involves covering their face.

I mean, one of these things is not like the others, right?

Mate come on, I could cherry pick multiple pics of the left fully covered from head to toe and post one of the right with no coverings acting peacefully.

That’s the point, they both have violent dickheads between then wanting to kick off.

One thing not like the other was the local residents in Dover opening windows, waving and applauding these people showing gratitude.
