I saw a video earlier showing the key moments during the 2016 election night. Seeing the change in mood as it becomes clear he’s won is kind of surreal looking back and knowing what we do now.

I always wonder what an alternative universe looks like if he doesn’t win.

Very sad.

RIP Noah.

Reminds me of the little boy that fell into the River Soar and was lost for weeks. At least this little chap was found quickly. I can't imagine the grief.

In America they specifically urge responders and the public to “search water first” for a missing child with autism/sen for this reason.

There isn't as much of a rule here in the UK like this, to my knowledge.

The police told the volunteer searchers to avoid open water and streams. Who knows why.

A universe much better prepared for Covid when it occurs.

One where Heather Heyer, to name but one, is still alive.

Quite possibly one where advances in clean energy and therefore stopping carbon emissions have gone a fair bit further than they have in this universe.

Better, in not so many words.

That all being said, IMO the real inflection point on that score is early 2021. What kind of universe would we have if he'd actually seen justice for the events of January 6th 2021, much less gotten anywhere near winning a second term?

It's clear to me that his second term has already been much more damaging than his first, and we're not even halfway through it yet.

January 6th to me is one of those events I somehow forget about and then when I read about it again I’m like, ****ing hell that actually happened

It's a bit pathetic. Look at me speaking a language you don't, it's very playground.

The bigger amusement from the story is that there are hardly any Urdu speakers there and the green party leaflet should have been in Bengali.

Exactly, which is why Polanski's lack of substance should be called out and mocked. If you purport to speak a language that you don't, you're setting yourself up for a fall.

If a party can't get its act together to research which languages might have a resonance in a given constituency, they're not going to be able to cope with any real responsibility.

Polanski and co. have had a very easy ride so far. It's not long ago that the Green candidate for the Manchester mayoral elections was crowing about how she'd reduced Labour's vote share (but seemed unconcerned that the Reform candidate had decimated hers), so I would expect Labour to be giving Polanski both barrels over the next few years.

The alternative universe is where Obama doesn't do a deal with the Clintons to support Hillary's nomination over Biden, who was a popular and fully compos mentis politician at the time, as opposed to Hillary who most certainly has never been popular with the American public.

Trump loses and goes back to presenting the US Apprentice or whatever...

Sliding doors and all that jazz.

And, you fear, more to come.

That's another side of that coin, yes.

The world that we live in right now is so frustrating because it could be so much better, and the methods to make it better are reasonably obvious. So many people are dying, and suffering, unnecessarily.

Pritzker made the point that all of that occupation of cities stuff by ICE was practicing and normalising having them in Democrat cities for the midterms.

Wouldn't surprise me at all to see it start to ramp back up now as we draw close.

That might well be so. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

I will add though that people are already anticipating the voter suppression and various tactics to try to do anything to shift the vote short of blatant rigging of it. There will be pushback, and it might end up in severe civil unrest.

I imagine it'll be the most tampered with elections in modern American history haha. Everything Trump has accused the Dems of in the last six years and everything he's going to accuse them of in the next few months is a confession of what he's doing to try and rig this.

Man has literally admitted he's going to jail if he loses and so have several of his inner circle lol

Depends if the Dems get enough in the Senate to guarantee a conviction of any impeachment proceedings, I think.

But yes, it could well be as bad as you say here, and if it is, it could get very ugly in terms of unrest.

Don't get me wrong, I said this the other day, I don't think he'll ever actually face justice. Just that he's definitely anxious about it.

Who'd have predicted the Supreme Court ruling that any act undertaken in the capacity as President can't be considered criminal would lead to such a situation?

One of NPDs biggest trademarks is accusing others of bad things you are doing yourself.

Projection is practically Felon#47's middle name.

And yes, he's textbook NPD with the classic DARVO tactics he uses. The really shitty thing is that because he uses them, it gives the everyday chuds that also use them a dark kind of validation.
