She actually said it’s not conservative cos she was accused of only taking questions from conservative media

Does that make her whole viewpoint of where the Mail lies on the compass more or less ridiculous, do you think?

That's sort of what I mean, really. How batshit does your view of the Overton Window look when you classify Breitbart as average conservative and the Mail as not?

To be fair I wouldn't really describe the mail as 'conservative', although I realise that word like 'liberal' has a different meaning in the US.

The weird thing is a lot of modern day Conservatives have some of the most radically transformative and un-conservative views in human history when you think they support a lack of regulation on AI which is about to smash apart our cultural and economic norms like nothing before it for example and they support of these massive tech companies which are now richer than nations, Or they openly support crypto over fiat currency like the pound, dollar or euro.

The weird thing about a lot of the modern right is they have incredibly un-conservative and incredibly liberalism-on-steroids views around technology, culture, economics and the withering away of the state in favour of corporations.

The luddites were the conservatives and the industrialists were the liberals in the industrial revolution. Now you have conservatives like Trump, Farage and Le Penn

supporting these gung-ho tech bros like Musk and Thiel and going all in on experimental technologies like AI and crypto. It's weird.

However this is even more true of American Conservatives than of British Conservatives. I do think a lot of British Conservatives are starting to criticise the economic liberalism Thatcher brought about even if they still say they "I will never vote Labour" for social reasons.

The French certainly don't appear to dick around when it comes to "action directe".

If you apply the same rules in France as we have here regarding Palestine Action, then surely French school children are terrorists?

I reckon that is a whole fresh can of worms it might not be a good idea to open.

Mmmm, cans of worms.

Anyway, I'm off to find out the etymology, but not the entomology.

Edit: fairly modern origin, surprisingly. It's the kind of thing I could imagine someone like Mark Twain being the origin of.

If they are using violence as a means to political change then yes they are.

The word terrorism implies that terror is imparted. I'm not scared by people vandalising stuff. If people were actually harmed, that would be different.

Also, if violence is used for political change then the Allies in WW2 were terrorists.

Hmm, I looked into the etymology of Pandora's box, but it was all Greek to me.

The word terrorism has a legal definition so it doesn't imply anything.

As for Palestine Action, amongst many of their actions, they vandalised the spine of a piece officer with a sledgehammer. That would scare me.

I trust these people rioting actually want changes in their schools and not just using it as a chance to destroy things in a country they hate.

Because that would be awful. Surely that wouldn’t happen

It's my own thoughts and experience that those who direct violence in this kind of situation and to this kind of degree tend to have rather specific and well defined political or societal objectives, rather than just being caricatures of some animated TV show villain who simply wants chaos or is just doing it for kicks. That tends to be the reserve of (some) much smaller individual situations IMO.

Sad state of affairs. Also going off in Albania to. Dread to think what we would be like if Reform got a foothold in Westminster. Hopefully they dont but could see similar things happening here if they did.

I agree. I suspect the streets would become quite lawless as the Reform followers would become emboldened to behave like this and not have any come back on them. For all the talk about two tier society now, wait for it to go even more so in the opposite direction if we found ourselves in that position of them in power.
