Tbh many British and Irish people can’t tell you the difference between the UK, Great Britain and England, let alone where stuff like the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands fit into it all. I don’t know why we expect people not from the British Isles to know.

Only a problem if England and the English get the all the blame for the bad stuff

Nah let’s be fair, most people outside the British Isles know England, Scotland and Ireland (as in the island of Ireland) and think they are either 3 independent nations or just one big nation coving the entire British Isles. Most people outside of UK & Ireland couldn’t tell you what Wales, Northern Ireland or the Isle of Man are.

It’s understandable though. Most Brits couldn’t tell you where Catalonia or Bavaria are either, most people just aren’t that interested in these things.

I think a lot of Brits would be surprised how much the rest of the world knows about GB and our nations' respective histories.

You only need to see the number of "American reacts to British food/TV/manners/customs/shops/roads... etc" videos on YouTube to know this.

And that's just one country.

I wonder how many Afghans we would have taken in without the ‘leak’ of that document ? (Which left us with no moral right to reject )

could be one of the most expensive errors ever made by an official

Uncertain, but what is certain is that any of them left there would have died the kind of deaths that haunt ones dreams.

I wonder what the "cost" of that is.

Of course but if the list hadn’t been compromised then there’s no way we would have brought 19k across

No disagreement whatsoever there.

The Afghans that helped our country should of been the first on the list to receive Asylum here and should of been sorted years ago. Far more deserving then the economic migrants who pay 20k to smugglers to get here while posing as refugees.

The very thorny ethical issue surrounding that whole matter aside (which I'm not going to touch with a bargepole here), I would certainly agree the UK should be helping those who help them in that way.

This is the sort of thing that should go beyond views of immigration and ‘forinors’ and what not, but the combination of horrific government mismanagement and vile normalisation of racism will mean this stuff will get latched onto and weaponised in a grim way.

A lot of our culture is religious, Christianity based with Saint Days and other religious events and ceremony. They're not even recognised as such certainly many don't view Christmas with a religious eye and most don't even know that Guy Fawkes / Bonfire Night is based on  religious difference. As there are fewer people each year claiming to be religious Christians interest is lost . At the same time I'd say that the vast majority of immigrants are followers of other religions and is often the reason for them being here. As time goes on their festivals and ceremonies are replacing, not directly many of the dying Christian ones.

Certainly life is very different culturally from my time in the late 50s where Church  3 times a day was the order of the day and the playing of the National Anthem when the TV shut down for the night and at the end of cinema showings when everyone almost without exception stood silently and observed it to the end are two examples.

Is Trump known for saying outlandish stuff then rowing it back? Or does he tend to follow through?

I don’t think he even knows what he is saying a majority of the time so it’s hard to know if he changes his mind or he just doesn’t have a clue what’s going on ( which I suspect is the case )

I notice he has walked back his ‘tomahawks to Ukraine’ line tonight, and realised he likely had no idea that sending nuclear capable American missile systems into Moscow city centre is probably a bad idea. He had no idea until somebody more informed told him.

It is quite worrying that half of America voted to have this disgusting crazy piece of s*** as president not once but twice. Hopefully isn’t around for much longer because the last 6 months have been crazy and felt a lot longer than that and I don’t live in America

That said a lot of the Eastern European migrants were / are Christian.
