Good question, I don’t know the answer to that I can only assume that they thought because the sale had been agreed in principle and the EFL has sanctioned the takeover that they didn’t need to do any of that as they wasn’t expecting the current owner to go back on his word

edited to add that for the EFL to sanction the takeover they have to see a signed sale & purchase agreement, even if this is signed by both parties it’s not effective until the transfer of shares has occurred which Bond Group have stalled on doing

Just seems bizarre.

You just don’t hand over millions of £’s without some sort of guarantees / signed contractual agreements etc - that’s basic due diligence.

It’s perhaps why I’m a little dubious about the merits of Panjab Warriors credentials.

signed contractual agreements

They must have one of these as EFL won’t sanction the sale without one, the original takeover date was June 6th seems everyone did their part in the takeover process except Jason Whittingham did not transfer the shares to Punjab Warriors as agreed

just to be clear about the money, the £1.7 million were interest free loans, the £630,000 payment was to previous creditors, the £3.8 million was the purchase price of the club

They'll probably be called something like AFC Morecambe in a few weeks, and things will continue operation-wise.

It looks as though it might be over for Morecambe unless we hear otherwise. The 5pm deadline has passed with no news of a completed sale.

Never knew lisa nandy supported wigan.

Sad times for Morecambe, however im sure the supporters will come together a form a Phoenix club that will climb the leagues in no time.

Surprised Tyson Fury has not come out to help, even as interim owner.

He doesn’t need to help, There is a deal set that the current owner and proposed owner have agreed to, the issue is the current owner Jason whittingham will not sign the club over despite saying in press releases multiple times he will do it

The deadline is actually the 20th of August, the National League meeting, if they exclude Morecambe from the league then it will be over if a sale is not confirmed at the meeting

They’ve already been suspended haven’t they. Hopefully it can turn around quick for them.

I think the 20th will rubber stamp expulsion if a takeover deal hasn't been completed by then or the club hasn't been wound up. They've just over a fortnight to get something over the line.

Yes they have already been suspended for the 1st three games of the season and suspended/removed from cup competitions, as @Bilo said a deal needs to be over the line by the 20th of August league meeting or the league will expel them unless there is extraordinary reasons

Spent many seasons in the same division as the Shrimpers. Feel for them, especially since we were in a similar situation to this not that many years ago.

Hopefully they can find a savior, as we did.

They've always struck me as a great little community club.

I think clubs Morecambe and Sheffield Wednesday need to protected from instances like that. The Fa should have the right to withdraw an owner from a football club. Club are then given 14-day deadline to find new ownership. At least then clubs like Morecambe can be saved.

Whilst that might be the leagues imposed deadline - it looks for all purposes that the club is essentially beyond the point of no return now.

If the situation hasn’t changed for the last 3-6 months because of key persons actions (or lack of)… why is it now going to change inside the next 14 days?

Plus, realistically, if the club is to be saved, it needs to change hands sooner than the 20th - because even if the sale goes through, the club would then need some sort of reasonable working time frame to thrash together and register a makeshift squad to avoid falling even further behind the fixture list.

You notice pattern how its always either Midlands and northern clubs always end going out of business. Does it say it all money down south... Dagenham and Redbridge just get themselves a wealthy backer.

Jason Whittingham has apparently failed to attend an meeting he set up

Just cannot understand the motive from this guy, the club goes out of business he gets nothing whilst he being offered a get out clause with cash which involves somewhat saving the club. The only thing I can see out of this which is very wild suggestion is maybe he's wanting to sell the land of which the stadium sits on and make fortune that way.

A new statement from Jason whittingham

We continue to work with a number of potential buyers to secure the future of Morecambe Football Club, all of whom are aware of the urgency of the Club’s position and fully expect this process to complete this week.

There has seen a flurry of interest over the last month, and each potential Buyer has been given the required information and support in order to finalise their intention and plans toward the Club and the Community.

This includes Panjab Warriors who, unfortunately, continue to issue statements that bear no relevance to actual events, are unhelpful and quite frankly bemusing. That said we have agreed to a Mediation meeting with Panjab, for this Wednesday, and await them confirming final details. Despite Panjab’s recent comments it was Bond Group that formally invited Panjab to Mediation but received no response from them.

Those not directly involved in this process choose to make uninformed statements for their own self-promotion, including Members of Parliament. None of these people have made any effort to contact Bond Group in order to discuss the situation directly but instead use their platforms to spread inaccurate information which is irresponsible and has affected the sale process.

Key stakeholders of the club are regularly updated, as we along with our Advisory team engage with Buyers and remain fully supportive of the process.

We will be appointing an Interim Board imminently to facilitate the final stages of the sale process.

More to follow.

Jason Whittingham,
Bond Group Investments LTD
