Cartwright played pretty deep. Didn’t really see much of the ball but got about the pitch and did well on the defensive side. Few loose passes but never looked lost or anything. He drives forward well with the ball, similar profile to James. 2

I’ve not seen anything mentioned but suppose it’ll only be said if/when they sign him permanently. he’ll end up leaving them at some point for £50m+ so would be a shame

davieG Posted 16 December 2025 Posted 16 December 2025 Looks like he's staying https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/marti-cifuentes-drops-sammy-braybrooke-10706388 However, Cifuentes has cast doubt over the idea of bringing Braybrooke into his squad, with his long-term development at the forefront of the club’s thinking. The 21-year-old is playing 90 minutes every week for Christian Fuchs’ Exiles, his first significant run of football since his ACL tear. Back at City, he’d likely only be used as a rotation option. “We have always conversations with his current club and (internally) what we think,” Cifuentes said. “The most important thing for me for Sammy, especially after the last years with an important injury, is now he’s getting continuity and doing well. That’s positive. “I’m sure Christian is happy with him. We will always work together with the player and in this case Newport to understand the best for all of the parties. Sammy’s doing well. “I think we look at the whole picture and if we think that (a recall) is a good solution for us, definitely we could do it. “But at the same time, we try to look for the long term and the development of the player. It’s always a balance between those.” Braybrooke himself has said he wants his stay at Newport to be extended so he can continue to fight to keep them in the EFL. The Welsh side have won just three of their 20 league fixtures so far this campaign and are four points from safety. Braybrooke told the BBC: “I'd love to stay. It's a good environment to be in and all I really want to do is play games and enjoy my football, which is what I am doing. “I love it here. I am playing a lot of games – way more than I am used to – and the fans have welcomed me in along with the other players and staff from day one. “I am enjoying my football again and that's reflected on the pitch. I was out for a long time and when you come back it is tough to find the rhythm again. “You are trying to find your flow and can't really remember what it used to be like. I would say this is the first time that I am back to being me.”

I originally thought a league one loan would be best second half of the season but the biggest thing for Braybrooke is simply playing games regardless of the quality. Is League one that much better in quality? A full season playing 90 minutes every week will do him so much good. He’s also unlikely to play that much if you recalled him. There’s no point bringing him back to get 5 minutes off the bench. Edited 16 December 2025 by Noahfence 3

Being in such a poor side doesn’t seem to be having any impact on his ability to put in his own good performances as well which is good to see

Ric Flair Posted 17 December 2025 Posted 17 December 2025 The main reason I'd recall and send to League One is so that come the summer we already know what he's like at that level too and thrn we can decide if he's ready to make the step up again to the Championship. He stays there the rest of the season and guarantee you the usual suspects on here will say he needs to then go League One. 4

And it won’t just be on here, the club will predictably follow that thought process. 1

Not sure risking a league one loan will actually make him any better

In fairness, Nelson smashed it in the Championship last season and the usual suspects you refer to still wanted Faes to play over him. So honestly, I don’t think Braybrooke has a chance of being ‘accepted’ into our side next season regardless of where he spends the second half of this season. By the usual suspects of course. 5
Noahfence Posted 18 December 2025 Posted 18 December 2025 Is there much difference in the quality between league one & two? Maybe at the top end

I was surprised how many people justified his exclusion from the team and for so long, based on the Huddersfield game and people saying Faes and Vestergaard had done well before and doing well and Oxford isn’t the same as playing for us etc. Im sure there’s a few who are pretending they were always in favour now they are looking foolish mind. My original point was, Nelson took ages to get in the side and there was very little calling from fans to include him. Applying this to Braybrooke, this would be equivalent to him needing to jump up to L1, excel at that level and for us to get relegated to be in the equivalent position Nelson was in, I.e excelled at the level we then found ourselves at. And he still had a job of it. So I think Braybrooke has a hell of a job on to be integral to our side next season to be honest. Not because he isn’t good enough, but because this club and too many of the fans have an obsession with experience in this league (or respective league we are in).
