I'll do some analysis on the gam eon Tuesday. @Aleksz has already covered some points, for me the most interesting thing was the use of "the free man" who in the first half was Hamza Choudhury. At times he found himself next to Daka as a striker, at others as a spare number 8, at times a 6 next to Winks and sometimes even as a CB next to Coady! That facillitated other players to move around and swap positions to make chances.

This type of football takes many hours to perfect on the training ground, so give this manager time. But I think we will be pleasantly suprised with the results and performances :scarf:

I thought the "free man" was Thomas.... was it maybe switching?

I was watching Luke and he was doing the same. LB position, CM position, winger, striker....He was all over the place.

Both. I only watched the first half and need to catch up with the second, but seemed like at different intervals, one of Thomas and Choudhury stayed back, the other went and played inside of their winger, showed in below screenshots.

It’s only one pre season game, but you can tell already the players seem on board - which (unfortunately) is a big thing down here so it seems. The players that did well under Enzo will clearly enjoy Martí.

I also think most of the fans will be on board with him too.

For the first time in a long while, I’m pretty optimistic about the new season already. I was under Enzo, but with him being unproven was a gamble that paid off well. The only thing that frustrated me with Enzo was his stubbornness when things were going to pot - which I don’t believe Cif will do.

We now just need to shift some deadwood and sign a bloody striker!

It is at every club!

Very promising. High intensity. High press. Quick and direct attack. Continue this way regardless of score, always looking for the next.

Could be exciting IF, big if, he's backed by the players and the club. Will need to get Nelson up to England level and get another top level centre back alongside him to play that way in the Premiership though.

Now the club need to do their job in getting rid of the dead wood and bad attitudes and bringing in a CF that has elite potential.

That's a tall order.

Hah! I know it's a bit much to ask to find another Vardy, but at least another Callum Wilson/Ivan Toney type potential young player who can get up to England form on his day once he's established in the Premiership (long way off of course).

Jake Evans is the heir to vardy. Hopefully he gets some more minutes as striker as he's been put out on the wing recently.

Would be nice, but wildly unlikely hes ready to lead the line yet. I'd at least get competition for him with Ayew as the 3rd choice/utility attacker.

Richard Kone from Wycombe would get us a promising talent whilst also pissing off Rodgers who's trying to sign him for Celtic.

I think if you look past Evan's age and look at his game intelligence, technical ability and finishing then you will find he is more than ready if given a run of games.

I think Cif is more capable of finding a plan B at half time if we’ve been caught out

In either instance, 3 box 3.

We're back.

And saved from Cooper and Ruud’s poor imitations of it.

Would be nice. Definitely needs opportunities. Would be a lot to just put it all on him without signing any competition though.

It varies depending on which side we attack down. And whichever one went, the other would usually fill in a little further behind, or as part of a back 3.

Tune in on Tuesday! There was a lot to study from this game alone, and it's the sort of thing that will vary across the season!

We need to get Nelson out the physio room first

Yeah it definitely looks better than Coopers attempt.  Certainly looks less punishing for whoever the forward playing fullback is.  Under Cooper he tried having them go from playing full back to becoming the winger, with the actual winger, Mav dropping inside as a second striker, and it was shit.  LT was taking up positions more like an attacking 8 than a winger, with Monga staying in position on the left wing.  So we keep two wingers in action all the time, instead of nullifying our threat by only playing one of them and making it easy to double up on.

Think it was clear today that Marti seems to want to prioritise his wingers being high and wide, than wanting those players in the inside pockets/half spaces. He’d rather Monga attacked from wide areas and Luke Thomas occupied that zone - even if it means Luke Thomas is in unorthodox areas (same with Hamza opposite side). Dangerous players in their most dangerous zones.

Yes I never saw any pattern of that all last season, in fact no structure at all from either of them.

Hopefully not something he's prone to. He got a good enough run of games for Oxford last year. They were saying he's the best thing since Matt Elliott, so fingers crossed that's a good omen.
