Yep. Nutmeg'd with ease. Then made little to no effort to recover the situation. Likewise when he stayed down their penalty box. Watford broke away to the halfway line before the penny dropped and made an half arsed attempt to run back. He's got no pace, all legs and looks weak for his size.

Don’t worry, he’ll be gone in the next 18 months if not sooner! Let’s give Vesty and Faes new contracts whilst at it…

You can’t put the 1st goal on Nelson, he was trying to make a recovery tackle when he was nutmeg. Okoli misplaced pass was what caused the trouble,  it simply unbalanced him. I thought he was good at travelling with the ball, he got us up the pitch, more than anyone. As for the 2nd goal, Jacob should have come out to rather the ball, positionally he was in the right place, if Jacob done his job right!

Just rewatched it incase i'd missed something. Seriously bad take im afraid. He got beaten in a recovery 1v1 - like that doesn't happen to many CB's. By the time the ball is passed to Maamma there isn't much more he can do.

Genuinely confused by these type of comments.

Nelson is the one CB on our books who hasn’t played a part in our relegations, isn’t on silly money and if half decent could actually fetch us some money, the odd attitude towards him genuinely baffles me.

Also - its hardly like he stood still and let the opposition just pass it through his legs. I've seen Vestergaard and Faes get done plenty of times in similar situations - would rather watch Nelson develop. Makes no sense to blame him for this goal.

On rewatch, how bad is Okoli's first touch. Aweful.

He will be off to someone like Palace in January is my prediction.

Fair play to him if he is. Won't have a bunch of 'fans' desperate for him to fail.

Dont worry, curly haired twat will be back on Monday.

That was his fault? I recall watching a complete bell end boot it into a Watford player.

I didn’t say the goal was his fault did I?

I said he got done, which he did.

And for clarification, I like Nelson and he should have been starting all season. Still inexperienced and will learn through playing. I prefer him to any other centre back we have. However I will criticise when needed, just like I praise when needed, just like any player we have. The same people on this forum are so protective of players they like. Every player can be criticised, it doesn’t mean I don’t like them (although tbh I don’t like many of our players).

Yesterday was the first game where he’s carried the ball forward and been braver with his passes which I liked.

The potential is clear to see and he has all the attributes you’d want in a CB. I’m astounded that people think he’s slow.

Im absolutely not having him at fault for the second goal. The keeper should be getting to that every single time.

First goal he gets done and if that was Faes there would be criticism so it’s only fair to say it BUT he should’ve never been left stranded like that but some truly atrocious play from Okoli.

Im biased as I like we see academy players get chances and accept the mistakes that come with it but each to their own I suppose.

i doubt it, i dont think Palace would want to pay what we'd want for him

18 months left in his contract. Club in financial turmoil. We have no bargaining power. It really won’t take a lot. Or clubs will just wait until he has a year left in the summer.

here we go AGAIN, Palace WILL NOT pay what we want, its not rocket science

nor will any other club in Jan, unless they pay over the odds, any player in the first team squad at any team will be over the odds in terms of asking price in Jan

you will not find bargains like Mahrez in January anymore, the market has changed!!!

and we do have bargaining power, hes under contract for another 18 months and im sure the club are already in talks with his agents over a new deal

also by your "logic", if a team came in for Fatawu and offered £20mil they'd accept it, cos we are in "financial tumoil"

its really not difficult to understand

ffs

It’s not hard to understand that players in the last 18 months of their contract will be those who potential suitors have eyes on. It’s not hard to understand that if Nelson agent has had contact, there is likely a reason he hasn’t signed a new deal.

I normally agree with things you post but I think you are way off with this confidence we can keep our younger players from PL sides if they want them.

Aha, what are you on about? We don't really have much (if any) bargaining power do we? We might be trying to get him to sign a new contract, but that doesn't really give us any power until it's officially done. We can't ask for more money from Club X because "we might extend it and he might sign."

If a club in a better position than us come sniffing, and Nelson makes clear his intention to leave, of course the club will have to consider offers of a lesser value than we'd like in an ideal world – or he sods off for nothing in 2027.

The Fatawu comparison is off and not really the same given he's under contract for another 3.5 years, not 1.5.

Correct. And regarding Fatawu, as well as the longer contract, there are factors like needing to cover amortisation before profit, being an attacking player commanding more etc which would mean we would genuinely ask for a large fee that could put off other clubs. Nelson’s situation is very different and not comparable. I am not saying he definitely goes in January. Purely that if a Palace or Bournemouth etc want him, we will not have much power to stand in their way.

as in talk to his agent to see if he'd be interested that sort of thing

and you miss my point i said, NO club will sell a first team player in January unless they get a bid over the summer asking price, even if the players makes an intention to leave

on the fatawu thing, well nah he said about the money situation, and well regardless of contract length if it was that bad money wise then we'd accept that sort of bid then yeah..

well they do cos hes still under contract at the club and unless they get a bid that is acceptable then he wont be going anywhere, regardless of how long hes got on his contact....points being to other players in the summer, when they rejected bids for Daka

also 18 months is a long time in football btw

I said not MUCH bargaining power, not none. We don’t know what conversations are taking place behind the scenes with agents. Maybe a new contract will be announced any time. Maybe Nelson and his party have made intentions clear to leave.

Given he has had a few injuries, I would personally think he would be looking to get tied into a long term contract so I find it odd that if both parties were committed, nothing has happened yet as 18 months is most definitely in the territory of ‘future planning’ in terms of contact running down, even though yes, it seems a long time.

My point is, and I don’t know why you are arguing it as player power is key these days, if, and I say if, the player has made intentions not to sign a new contract clear, this puts us in a position where we have to cash in over the next couple of windows or lose him for free in 2027. So no, we don’t have to sell him for any fee. But is it worth losing him for free subject to the contract situation?

In that scenario, we likely would get bent over by PL vultures, knowing the position. Then again, our MO as a club would probably be the let him go on a free option, given how we are run nowadays….

I was excited to see him play without JV, turns out he is just a quicker JV.  He played in the exact style, slow, boring sideways and backwards, walking football to the halfway line and even doing the stupid JV roll with the ball at the last second after you wait to be pressed rather than pass quickly,  We got exactly the same result and performance.

So many times they will send it side to side slowly for Ricard and Thomas to not even bother looking forwards, ignoring the wingers first time to then attempt a slow loft to the winger close to the edge of the pitch.

The club needs to stop this rot and style of play out of the back.  Once JV is gone and we have a manager with a clue things may change. It wasn't good to see someone who we have high hopes for slot into this mess so easily and continuing the rot.  Hopefully the young players can drop these bad habits with a better coach or even club to guide them.

Practically defended on his own yesterday. Okoli and Thomas had rotters, Ricardo constantly caught on the break.

I thought he was comfortably our best player.

If I was scouting I'd be looking at him as a great prospect and think you could comfortably pick him up off this lot as they are a shambles

I agree. I thought he looked comfortable on the ball and carried it forward quite well and some of his forward passing was very good.

Against him is his injury record and the fact that he's not played that much football at this level. However, if scouts are looking at potential then I'd say he would be worth a punt.

A bid of 15 million to test our resolve could easily be incoming from a mid table premier League club. With only 18 months left on his contract we could be in a tricky position if serious bids do come in.
