Looking at possibly switching providers.

Currently out of contract with Sky and was eyeing toobi though from my street to house I think its still the old copper line in use.

My Sky router apparently becomes obsolete around December anyway so what to choose?

I was switching to toob from Virgin when VM matched their pricing for me. So I stayed.

If switching to toob, just check a shared IP address won't be a problem for you. Shared is default for toob, though you can pay extra for a dedicated address, which is what you have with most other providers.

A shared IP address wasn't a deal breaker for me, nor for most other folk I would suggest. But for your peace of mind, Google shared IP address, so you can make an informed decision.

EE full fibre service is very good where I am and the support when needed has actually been excellent.

Only downside is that their current router doesn't allow you to separate out the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands (it's all managed automatically, supposedly) which can sometimes be a pain in the arse for things that still use the former, like security cameras, doorbells, bulbs and the like

We've just left Sky for broadband and TV to Virgin Media, it's mad to me that another provider can offer broadband, sky channels including sports and cinema for £60 less than what Sky could get close too. We stuck with Sky as long as we could, a bit through ease, a bit through the level of service but the increases are huge and we just can't justify it!

Had to change to Internetty on OFNL as we moved house. New development so none of the big providers have a line here yet.

More expensive than Sky but decent speeds for what we require. Customer service was decent too so far when putting the order through.

That's most internet providers for you.

There'll be folk, probably even in these boards, who switched from VM to Sky, for the exact same reasons.

Yep! As soon as my new customer deal with VM ended,  they doubled the price so, back to sky. Although VM did keep calling and reducing the price. I didn't like the system so left anyway.

This summer the Sky deal ended and increased by £45. I said I was leaving and the price reduced... saved £40 from the old deal and now we're on fibre optic BB.

@ithurielhave you called Sky and said you're leaving and tried to negotiate a better deal?

Havea look around the openreach website and you can find a document that lists every single exchange in the country and when it will be upgraded to full fibre. Might help you decide how long to sign up for. Masses of the country being done in the next 12 months.

Not yet but when I was with their TV I got messed around no end and dropped them sticking to Free view mostly, though the BB seem to be a lot better with customer care.

I'm going to take my time but I think these days even if you take on a contract, if they raise the price you have the option to automatically leave  I think? where with toobi they do not raise the price in contract but  yeah, going to shop around.

Had an email from Sky yesterday saying they're charging me £300 for early termination even though a) I spoke to 3 different people in the lead up to our move who stated we wouldn't be charged because it's not our choice to leave, it's because there's no service provided to our new address and b) they said we haven't returned their equipment yet. Even though they've confirmed a few days ago they did receive it lol

Fair enough, I think our initial deal with sky started at around £70, it slowly increased over the past 4 years even with us ringing up and looking for better deals. We were due to be paying around £110 from the start of September which they were pleased to tell me was already about £30 cheaper than it should be. Our Virgin media package starts at £54 and from the annual price rises will increase to £62 over the next two years, with the price increasing to £160 when the contract ends, at which point we will either renegotiate or move providers. My issue with Sky was them telling me the price has gone up because the number of services we have available has increased, but you have to pay extra for every additional element, and telling me that I had an unbeatable price on my broadband package for the speed, which wasn't true either.

I imagine in two years time as you say I'll be having the same complaints around Virgin and returning to Sky or looking elsewhere.

Don't forget that the majority of providers are on the Openreach network (Virgin, Starlink and some other fibre providers) and speeds and reliability will be identical.

You mentioned the router was obsolete, have you looked at getting your own? Can get significantly better routers than the ones provided that are always fairly naff.

My sky broadband which is plenty fast enough and basic tv package with Netflix is 35 quid a month, don’t know how people are paying so much.

Sports package added?

Needed to access my hardly used Virgin email account online and as it yonks since I last did so, I'd forgotten my password.

No matter, I clicked on the forgotten password link.

After correctly answering several security questions, that verify I am who I say I am, they've sent a reset link to that very same email account, the one I can't access because I can't remember the password.
