Why do I keep seeing threads about promotion

It was more a thread to highlight just how far the club has allowed our squad to fall off in such a short space of time to be honest. Just how few players we have that could even compete in the top flight.

I think we have all accepted that any chance of a promotion back to the Premier League probably rests on a fluke in the playoffs. But if by some miracle it were to happen, which players are you taking with you?

I'll be honest, my list is seriously dwindling which shows just how far we have fallen off.

Fatawu

James

Nelson

Mavididi

Ricky P

Thomas (Lol Bantz)

Monga

Maybe a couple more on top of that as squad players...grim really.

back to the premier league

as someone else has said, we aint going anywhere near it again for a long long time, we are more likely to go to league 1 more than go up

we ARE THAT bad and none of the players are good enough for the premier league imo

maybe Nelson at a push, that is it

James and Fatawu on reputation only. The rest of them would never get near the premier league, not good enough.

Monga too…forgot about him

Ignoring again we turned down bids for Nelson, so yes he would get near the premier league

If you take away being over reactive, consider factors like players that would benefit from playing in a more functional team, under a competent manager etc, there are a few who would be perfectly fine to take to that level, whether that be starters or in the squad. Main things for me are attitude and potential.

On that basis, the following could be kept.

Stolarcryk - clearly in a poor run of form and struggling but not a lost cause if in a competent team and coaching set up.

Aluko - potential

Nelson - potential and shown quality already. A victim of the anti-young player mob.

Thomas - extremely generous and I could easily take him off here. If he was back up I would be fine with the odd game. Again. In a better team and with better coaches, I feel he’d be less of a liability.

Skipp - good attitude and has been one of the better performers recently. He can do a decent job I think.

James - obviously

Fatawu - again, obviously

Monga - potential

Mavididi - unsure. I actually still like him as a player despite his poor season. If we somehow went up, I’d sooner we upgrade but he could be a squad player.

Page - potential

Evans - potential

Thats 11 players. I think all those have pretty good attitudes and at least put a shift in and would be happy at the club. I do think there is an overriding weakness in areas such as mentality. To make a match day squad, you’d need 7 new additions. If those were better than what we have, in the areas of weakness (striker and defence) as well as being of the right profile in terms of having some genuine leaders, grit and winning mentality (thinking of the types of players Morgan, Huth and Fuchs were for us), I think we’d have a lot to be positive about purely from a playing squad point of view.

I think this is a good summary, but taking out the ‘potential’ (statistically it’s unlikely they will all make it) and you’re left with six players, five of whom have at least one relegation from the Prem to their name already. Thomas has been involved in three relegated sides in three years! It doesn’t scream Prem quality.

I get you. Obviously it was a question of who you’d keep so Aluko, Page, Monga and Evans would be keeps. I think Nelson is more established than the other already. I also wouldn’t class them as starters and the new signings would need to be of quality the youngsters have a place in the squad.

Thomas is fortunate I mentioned him. If we could bring 2 better LBs I would. I think it’s unrealistic.

Nelson- Even today unless I’ve missed something obvious he seemed to control everything he was around, With a couple more seasons I believe he will be able of mid prem ambitions.

Monga- not Just on potential but he puts seasoned pros to shame upon facing them the first time in his career, Will only get better as he matures and learns more about full backs habits.

JJ- I love JJ and the moments he brings so he would be given a shot the only downfall I believe his natural fitness will hold him back.

Fatawu- The quality is there to beat any player on his day. Negative is the lack of consistency required at the highest level.

How did we go from 6th in the championship to premiership winners in 3 years, the same way we've gone from 5th in the premiership to bottom half of the championship in 4 years, momentum, much like Vardy was we are a streaky club, would you have taken 8 years in the premiership if it meant 10 years back in the championship? I'm 41 and have never really remember us being in the top division for more than 4 years on the spin before this streak. We are a historic yoyo club, there was a massive opportunity to change that, we blew it, regardless of what division we are in, I want that feeling of looking forward to a game again.

Such a poor take.

We have thrown generational money at record levels of decline. Can't just shrug and say 'history, innit?'

Does that same logic have Bournemouth as Premier League stalwarts? How about Brighton?

I’m not saying that there is guarantees in football but with the success we had (Prem winners, consistently top half, Europe, FA winners), money spent - we should never be in the position we are in now

Granted we’d of had seasons in bottom half premier league/flirting relegation but never where we are now regardless of our history being a yo-yo club.

Hard to argue with this comment but it’s how the reality of the reduction in squad quality Impacts going forward it’s bad enough this season but it’s going to get worse
