It is amazing to think now, but Keegan resigned from the England job (last game at the old Wembley) because he listened to the boos from the crowd, he agreed that he wasn't doing the job well enough, and he told the media that he blamed himself as he quit.

 

Can you imagine any of today's managers doing that, instead of clinging on, ignoring criticism and giving delusional interviews while waiting for a payoff?

 

Some man, Mr Keegan.  I wish him well.

He was probably a better player than given credit for too. His name never crops up in debates yet he won practically everything as part of some great sides and won the Ballan d'OR twice.

I've always liked Keegan as a person. Never got to see him as a player.

 

Wasn't he one of the first or maybe even the first English pro footballer to play on the Continent?

Fun fact: Thanks to him, the name "Kevin" surged in popularity in Germany when he was playing for HSV.
