Please not another season where a Red Bull is half a second quicker than the next car in the grid…  I’m hoping teams are keeping their powder dry and it’s gonna be a real competitive field.

They weren’t last season though.

Mercedes are the favourites I think.

Mclaren due to start testing tomorrow.

Yeah, I wasn’t referring to last season. Aston Martin I’m hoping will have a Newey bounce and they haven't tested yet as the car isn’t ready… I’m hoping that means they are not wishing for other teams to see their car rather it not be ready! It’d just be nice to have a competitive season with a bit of driver excellence coming through with the new electric turbo boost decision making!

Let's hope these worries on the cars are unfounded. We've seen cars slowing down near the end of the straights and talks of Jeddah plonking a chicane on the straight to help with energy recovery. Do agree with Max that the cars need to be able to be pushed all the time.

Aston maybe but I think there’s concerns Honda are behind

Gong by what Adrain Newey has said they will be near the bottom instead.

Lance was saying they’re 4 seconds behind the place lol

Does that mean he was lapping 7 seconds slower than everyone else?

Probably be the norm for him .

Verstappen already complaining about the cars and engine - worried he won’t be competitive ?

So pre-season testing is over now. Just watched the end of the session and I particularly enjoyed the practice start procedures with every one lining up on the grid and doing a proper start.

Still guessing as certain teams like Mercedes seem to be sandbagging still, but the top two seem to be Mercedes and Ferrari a couple of tenths ahead. Then McLaren and Red Bull complete a very competitive top 4 teams.

Racing Bulls, Haas and Alpine seem to be the best of the rest, and then bringing up the rear unfortunately are Williams, dumped in along with a sorry looking Aston Martin, before Audi and Cadillac complete the list.

New series of Drive To Survive is up today.

Ep1 was a little dull as it was mostly about the new rookies.

Looking forward to getting into the Horner stuff and seeing him sweat like hell on camera, while Toto and Zak sit there looking immeasurably smug whilst giving withering lay satisfied comments about him!

Going to be absolutely box office with Nando having a brand new Honda engine again aint it lol

Think he has already spoken out against it .

Been listening to The Race podcast preview of this. Seems to be that these power units are shit with so much conserving in corners to charge the battery, potentially leading to processional races. "Qualifying will be lap one" is the summation from one of them.

Not exactly building it up to be a thrill-filled festival of racing...

Not sure he can be blamed for this situation but yes certainly not a good  start .

Not his fault I agree - just he had an easy ride at RB for years so he's under a bit of pressure now.

They really have messed up the direction of the sport.

Should've focused on sustainable fuel

They're doing that too.

But yeah, getting rid of the MGU-H without properly replacing it was always going to cause problems...  Man this season has potential to be either absolutely crap, and/or aboslutely hilarious :P

(Anyone else bothering to watch the practice sessions?  I slept most of yesterday just to get my sleep in the right place - thankfully I don't have much work to do until next week...)
