Think that he'll play as one of the advanced 8's instead if he's to start

Not big or physical enough to do that role and hasn't played that way.

He's a textbook 6 that should absolutely replace Winks in the squad. By all means go out and get another, but that's where Braybrooke should play.

We need a proper club captain as no present players up to it. Once on the pitch players need to adapt to opposition tactics as the managers influence is limited. Senior players on the pitch see what is happening around them and can sort junior players out at any level. Last season the captain, Riccardo, had very  little on field influence, seeing Hamza pick up the captain's armband filled me with dread. We need strong characters all over the pitch as in the Premier League winning season.

Now we have a manager, go and get a proper captain, a leader that will fit Martin's system. This should be the first priority as we have a weak bunch of pathetic bozos and someone needs to make the accountable this season

They wouldn’t be glamorous signings, but captains don’t have to be.

I’d seriously be looking at players like Ricardo Santos(Swansea), Frankie Kent and Ben Osborn who are both now free agents.

All have experience at this level, Santos and Kent have both been captains/vice captains at previous clubs. Think @moore_94 mentioned that Osborn captained Stockport on a few occasions last season, also versatile, so could potentially play an inverted role that Russell Martin is usually keen on.

Kent would be class, exactly the sort of experienced signing we should be going for that we've completely fumbled recently with geriatric arseholes instead. Reeks of Pearson.

Leading on from potential goalkeeper options, time for some full-backs. In terms of right-backs a lot will depend on how Russell Martin views Aluko and Joseph, but we’ll definitely need a left-back when Kristiansen hopefully buggers off.

Going off the basis of Martin probably inverting his full-backs, some potential options…

Norbert Wojtuszek(RB/DM) - Jagiellona Bialystok

Has played a mixture of right-back and central midfield throughout his career, and his in possession stats over the past season for Jagiellona were very impressive, which would make him a good fit for Russell ball. Of full-backs in Poland he ranked, 88% pass completion(1st), 82.55% forward pass completion(1st), 92.16% short pass completion(2nd), 87% final third pass completion(1st). He also earned his first call-up to the Poland national team last month.

Tom Sparrow(RB/DM) - Motherwell

Firstly, we’ve how they played last season, Motherwell is a club I wouldn’t mind targeting this summer. Sparrow has been very much a utility player for Motherwell in recent seasons, often operating either on the right flank or in central midfield. He was in and out of the Motherwell team last season, but depending on how Russell Martin views Aluko and Joseph, Sparrow could be a fairly cheap squad option.

Ben Osborn(LB/CM) - Free Agent

Mentioned him yesterday, but if we want an experienced option who can be versatile, then Ben Osborn would make perfect sense.

Seb Naylor(LB) - Bristol City

Bristol City signed him in January from Manchester City, but has hardly played since joining them. Of course he might get a chance now they’ve appointed Skubala, but if not and they are willing to loan him out, then James McCarron will know what he’s all about. I wouldn’t be surprised if his name crops up this summer.

Cathal McCarthy(FB/CB/DM) - Hull City

Left him till last as he intrigues me the most. Played a few times for Hull City last season where he caught the eye, including in the FA Cup against Chelsea. Much like Tom Sparrow, he has been very much used as a utility player, has played at centre-back, full-back and in central midfield. This was from an article on the Hull City website… I saw him playing as a centre-half, but Cathal could have played in any position really. He could have played right-back or left-back as he was comfortable on both feet. I wasn’t surprised to see him playing in midfield when you were in Türkiye as nothing phases him. If you said to him you’re playing in the number 10 or left midfield, he will give you a 10 out of 10 performance; he is that sort of player. Versatility is part of his game and he is comfortable on the ball and his composure to take it in tight spaces is incredible.

I fully expect Hull to loan him out this summer, the type of player he is, he could well fit an inverted role.

Honourable mention to Stanley Wilson(AIK) - He may sound like a prime minister from the 1800’s, but he currently looks one of the best prospects in Sweden, would probably be out of our price range though, considering AIK just sold their best talent to Brighton for £20 mill.

Good work. I think Finley Munroe could be got at as well from Boro as he hasn't done owt since Villa flogged him there in Jan. Tempted them with a double/triple their money and still dirt cheap for his potential at this level.

Tell you what we desperately need – handsome players. Had a great summer 2023 signing some great looking lads in the main, since then it's been dross.

Handsome players give the place a lift

Great post this pal.

The work of scouting Scandinavian ball playing CB’s that we won’t sign starts now!

Scandinavia is a serious hotbed for ball playing CB’s 25 and under, but no doubt we’ll sign someone like Shane Duffy instead…

Keeping an eye on this lad. They had high hopes for him at Goteborg but moved to Osters and started the new season very well.

Would cost less than £1m in that league.

sad part is, we like many other UK based teams cant be arsed to look at the scandi region in depth enough, there is so much talent there that can be easily developed at reasonable prices....

but LCFC would rather wait till they are at one of the bigger clubs either within the nation or at another top club with say Germany, Holland etc before they ever consider buying them

I’d like Alex Mitchell from Charlton as a new CB (was on loan at Argyle last season), especially if Nelson, Souttar etc leave.

Very much reminds me of a lower league Maguire. Strong, dominant, technically good and (unlike Maguire) is a bit of a character too in a good way.

Available for £500k apparently as he’s in the last year of his deal. Played with Tolaj last season which is a bonus if he were to come.
