Well, it is produced by the NY Times. But I agree. I didn't get todays puzzle because of that.

Purple and green definitely US centric today.

 

If people need a de-Americanised clue to help - think of “carton” as “cup” and “Boardwalk” as “Trafalgar” in British English.
