I don’t think anyone genuinely believes a charity match is going to hypnotise the fanbase into forgetting we’ve just been relegated. 

 

The biggest point people are try to make, and some are still failing to recognise, is it’s the timing that jars, the club hasn't read the room. Yet again.

 

When the club is still dealing with the fallout of dropping into League One, rolling out a big celebration of the Premier League win from 10 years ago feels… awkward is the nicest way some could put it.

 

Me I think it's crass.

 

It's almost like we’re being nudged to wrap ourselves in the warm glow of 2016 while the present situation is still smouldering in the background. — just that, right now, it risks looking like the club is leaning on nostalgia at the exact moment supporters are expecting accountability (not that that will ever happen) or planning for the future.

 

So it’s not about fans being “stupid” or easily distracted. It’s simply that celebrating our highest moment immediately after one of our lowest is always going to raise eyebrows

 

That's that underlying problem most, if not all have with the match.

 

Yes it may have been mooted as  possibility of  happening at the De Mont event you mentioned, but that doesn't mean it actually has to happen, the club still has the freedom to exercise some levels of common sense and ask, 'should we still do this', 'is the timing quite right'

 

And it seems with the pi$$ poor ticket sales to date the wider fanbase outside of Foxestalk thinks not also.

As I said in another post attach it to a pre-season glamour  (hard to find) event at the KP so we end up with a double header then you can make a big event out of it people will come to one or the other so you're covered interest wise.

 

2016 Legends v Star team 60min

2026/27 team with academy and new signings v a glamour side.

Chuck in a few extra events out side, fan's zone, new kit stall, new food and drink options, player signings.

 

You could even make the Foundation thing voluntary with a load of collectors outside perhaps get a 'cheap' Vichai Foundation badge.

The protests have been ongoing for 15 months. I haven’t seen anyone suggesting the owners would just drop out like that. I don’t think they have choosed to restructure at board level without the protests. The West Brom attendance in particular stung them. Wasn’t a great look. 
 

I look at comparable clubs what have made drops down to the third tier and now on an upward curve. Coventry, Sunderland and Derby, all of them required ownership change before they began to really succeed in return back to a level. 
 

Sad thing for me is comparing ourselves to those clubs. Because if I take the year I was born of 1988, I reckon we must be one of 5 clubs that has won every major domestic trophy within that period. The legacy of those years should be that this club is a firm top flight fixture in a city which is within 10 biggest of the country and has a huge catchment area. 
 

That nous and sustainable ambition can’t match the latter angers because of the impact it has on employment, economy and the city.

Yes. It's time to move on. Next season there should be no pre-match video, flags etc.. Get the fundamentals right and hopefully there'll be something to celebrate in the future

Im the same. It's a shame, as if the circumstances of the club weren't so dire, id be bang up for it. There is nothing worth celebrating about this club right now

It's been a number of years since any fan with any decent knowledge of the situation wanted them gone. 

 

It's also, according to quite reliable sources, been a number of years since all of the King Power group wanted out but Top has refused to let it go. 

 

Not a ****ing chance a club like Leeds or Liverpool would have let them do this.

Everything, really, has been done with it. Said, videoed, clipped. This match is a nice idea but not particularly interesting. I'd be saying this if we were in a decent state on and off the pitch, too.
