I don't think there is a story.  We've just got a big squad and are more limited in League one on who can make the matchday squad.  Ris is the first choice and while most of us would see Bristric as the only other striker in the side, Martin obviously sees Cullen and Reid as viable options for the position, so he's going with more settled experienced and arguably versatile players.

It's not acceptable to only have one striker in the matchday 18. I will not accept that Cullen or Reid are viable alternatives.

 

He talks about needing different personnel for different scenarios and yesterday needed Bristric and Riis together to unsettle a very tired and weary 10 men.

There is with this one mate. I’d say you’re right when it comes to the others. Yes most of us would rather McFarlane than Thomas but it’s a managers choice and you aren’t having 2 left backs in a squad with 7 subs. Same with Kangasniemi, we’d rather he play and be the future than Faes. Even Doyle, it seems odd to have 3 wingers on the bench and no room for Doyle. It you’d presume it’s to do with others being versatile, even though I’d have Doyle in the squad rather than needing Cullen starting and both Burns and BDR on the bench.

 

But as Ric says, to not have your only other recognised striker on the bench? As yourself, how many of the other 23 sides and managers would do this? It’s either Martin being clueless or it’s a falling out, what else are we meant to believe?

If it is because he’s kicked or had a bad attitude, it sounds like there was previous for this so where was the due diligence?

 

If he’s not done anything wrong and been dropped for no reason, why are we employing a manager who doesn’t think it’s useful to have the only other striker in the senior squad in the match day squad?

 

I can’t genuinely think of a scenario that you could say doesn’t reflect badly on the club, recruitment or manager (or combination of). If anyone has one, please share!

It means signing a player who had been known for falling out with managers and then being surprised he falls out with the manager, before paying him to sit around and not contribute whilst we have BDR as the back up striker

Also means signing a manager who doubles down on a style the fans hate and who had a horrific record for winning games, and wondering why we aren’t winning games and the fans don’t like him. And then wondering why players who don’t mind criticising poor playing ideology are willing to complain about it.

Joking tones aside, even if we don’t have the facts about certain things, such as Bristvic, it is quite clear from the lack of any sensible scenarios that whatever is going on, the club is ultimately at fault yet still some defend them….

Martin has form for not taking criticism and we have see it in some of his interviews. The mans an ego maniac who believes absolutely that he is right. Mystery injuries are often the excuse for disciplining players who do not toe the line. Many players are not keen on some of his unconventional practices. Was it wild swimming this week?

We've made 14 signings. Not all of them will work out, not all of them will fit in or get on with the manager.

 

If there has been a proper falling out beyond normal training ground stuff and/or there have been disciplinary issues, then it's very early and you have to question what kind of person the player is.

 

Bristric has previous. Knowingly bringing him in the first place showed that the club either thought these issues were behind him, or that this kind of character might help the squad, or that the manager and players could help him. And very probably a failure in the recruitment process.

 

On the other hand, it might be unfair to tar Bristric in this manner. He may have done nothing wrong but his past has caused people to question his reputation.

 

If it's true he's unhappy at 'being replaced', then he has to be better. He's barely shown anything in games. He isn't up to speed and needs to knuckle down, learn, do the business in training and take a chance when it comes his way.

 

That first chance should be on Tuesday against Fulham U21s in the EFL Trophy. If he puts in the kind of performance that can't be ignored, he's back on the bench for the next league game and has a chance to make a difference that gives the manager a headache.

 

If he's throwing a strop and giving up already, then get him gone in Jan.

To be fair to Mcfarlane, if anyone was being replaced by Thomas, you'd be pretty p'ed off. I mean come on, it's a pretty low bar and to be fair to him, he's not done too badly. I'd be questioning the decision too
