Lemon Harpic Posted 11 May 2006 Share Posted 11 May 2006 Roster: http://www.ussoccer.com/articles/viewArticle.jsp_280933.html John O'Brien plays for Chivas USA? I thought they had a Hispanic-only policy but obviously not. Needless to say that as a self-respecting lefty I'll be supporting anyone who plays against the USA. Jordan Posted 12 May 2006 Author Share Posted 12 May 2006 Needless to say that as a self-respecting lefty I'll be supporting anyone who plays against the USA. If you were really a self-respecting lefty, you'd have nothing to do with a corporate cock-sucking fest like the FIFA World Cup. Anyway, if you look at the United States national men's soccer team a little closer, you'll find that the squad represents America's geographic, socio-economic and ethnic diversity better than pretty much any institution in the United States. Admittedly, the American ideal is being eroded every day as the inequality between the rich and poor here is growing every day, and our statesmen and corporate leaders aren't making many friends outside of our borders lately, but that's no reason to root against a group of men who really do represent something great about my country. MC Prussian Posted 12 May 2006 Share Posted 12 May 2006 But "soccer" (, what an ugly name!) still has a very hard time breaking into the American social conscience. Mostly a game for women or "immigrants" (if I may be so bold), most older and more established families and communities are rather sceptic and prefer the good ol' American Football or Baseball (all European or Canadian inventions, btw ) Don't think the States will make it far this year. Not strong enough in a World competition. But good luck anyway!

The USA is the enemy of democracy. This is the country that has crushed democratic movements, overthrown democratically-elected rulers and installed in their place brutal dictators such as General Sani Abacha in Nigeria, Idi Amin in Uganda, Colonel Hugo Banzer in Bolivia, Fulgencio Batista in Cuba, Sir Hassanal Bolkiah in Brunei, P.W. Botha in South Africa, General Humberto Branco in Brazil, Raoul Cedras in Haiti, Vinicio Cerezo in Guatemala, Chiang Kai-Shek in Taiwan, Roberto Suazo Cordova in Honduras, Alfredo Christiani in El Salvador, Ngo Dihn Diem in Vietnam, General Samuel Doe in Liberia, Francois Duvalier in Haiti, Jean Claude Duvalier in Haiti, King Fahd bin'Abdul-'Aziz in Saudi Arabia, Hassan II in Morocco, Ferdinand Marcos in the Philippines, General Maximiliano Hernandez Martinez in El Salvador, Mobutu Sese Seko in Zaire, General Efrain Rios Montt in Guatemala, General Manuel Noriega in Panama, Turgut Ozal in Turkey, Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlevi in Iran, George Papadopoulos in Greece, Park Chung Hee in South Korea, General Augusto Pinochet in Chile, General Sitiveni Rabuka in Fiji, Halie Salassie in Ethiopia, Antonio de Oliveira Salazar in Portugal, Anastasio Somoza Jr. in Nicaragua, Anastasio Somoza Sr. in Nicaragua, Ian Smith in Rhodesia, Alfredo Stroessner in Paraguay, General Suharto in Indonesia, Rafael Leonidas Trujillo in the Dominican Republic, General Jorge Rafael Videla in Argentina, Mohammed Zia Ul-Haq in Pakistan and many, many more. This is the country that is blacklisted by Amnesty International for it's use of torture and the US is the only country that was condemned for international terrorism by the World Court. How can Josh Wolff, Pablo Mastroeni and the rest of the lads stand up before the match and sing that their country is the 'Land of the free"? It's disgusting. When the USA are knocked out, just like when a US soldier dies in Iraq, it will be a cause for celebration for everybody who loves freedom.
