Walshy Posted 11 July 2006 Posted 11 July 2006 Following the sad news about Syd Barrett today. Which musicians, Actors, Sports or TV personalities have upset you the most on hereing the news? for me Brian Clough John Peel Ronnie Barker
Tomassi Posted 11 July 2006 Posted 11 July 2006 Cloughie, as i met him a month prior to his death! There was another that shocked me no end but ive forgotten
Bert Posted 11 July 2006 Posted 11 July 2006 Couldn't have been that shocked then!! Eddie Guererro's hit me a bit, as did George Bests.
Deathside Posted 12 July 2006 Posted 12 July 2006 Without any shadow of doubt John Peel - The most amazing human being that I ever met - And the one single person who has most influenced my life Hardly a day passes when he doesn't enter my thoughts in some shape or form
macbeth Posted 12 July 2006 Posted 12 July 2006 no celebrity has ever hit me...........the man on the persil ad pushed me out of his way but that was all
SystonFox Posted 12 July 2006 Posted 12 July 2006 rod hull ;he fell off the roof ............onto me that was quite funny considering i havent really felt that bad when any "celebs" have died. i have felt sorry for families etc but ive never met these people so i wouldnt know anything about them. if MON died tomorrow or Cheryl Tweedy then i might get a bit sad.
Swedging Posted 12 July 2006 Posted 12 July 2006 The job of a celebrity is to entertain us. I always feel cheated when they don't die in an entertaining way. Or early enough. Where's the value in hearing someone's died when you thought they'd shuffled off years ago?
Guest Posted 12 July 2006 Posted 12 July 2006 no celebrity has ever hit me...........the man on the persil ad pushed me out of his way but that was all Shane Ritchie once filmed a Daz ad down our road, and he stepped out in front of my work colleague's car (I didn't drive in those days ) waving a box of Daz. I had a go at the poor bloke for braking, he didn't have a TV, and didn't know who Shane Ritchie was.
Daggers Posted 12 July 2006 Posted 12 July 2006 i havent really felt that bad when any "celebs" have died. i have felt sorry for families etc but ive never met these people so i wouldnt know anything about them. I with you there. I got a bit emotional watching the John Peel retrospective on tele but I'm pretty sure it was more the loss of my youth and innocence that he represented rather than him as a bloke. I liked Peel no end ~ but I didn't know him beyond lstening to his show from the mid 70's onwards. I do wonder how people get so emotional over celebrities, I'm not having a go, but someone you've never met and in all reality probably isn't that nice. That said, I don't really listen to the radio anymore now Peel has gone. For me it wasn't just about him, his passing signified the death of radio.
Rincewind Posted 12 July 2006 Posted 12 July 2006 I think it was Spike Milligan that said, 'If I die in war I will be remembered, if I live in peace I will be forgotten.' Bit off the subject but Spike is one that I think about. Read more of his work since he died. What I'm saying really a lot of the celebs Spike, John Lennon, John Peel, Ronnie Barker, Freddie Mercury, Marc Bolan, Elvis, Buddy Holly etc. the list is endless have all left us something to remember them by. Whether we liked them or not does not really matter. Initially they acheived their fame by determination to succeed in their field. This is not hero-worship just respect for doing something that I could not. I just think that if God exists he'll have a great rock band in Heaven. And the variety shows would be something to die for. He must have good taste though as Cliff Richard is still with us.
hairy Posted 12 July 2006 Posted 12 July 2006 He must have good taste though as Cliff Richard is still with us. .......but Cliff is God
Rincewind Posted 12 July 2006 Posted 12 July 2006 Only thing is, when he goes all his records will be re-released and end up at No. 1 in the charts and played endlessly on Radio One, Leicester Sound and Heart FM. Sorry to spoil your breakfast everyone.
DanTheFoxBhoy Posted 12 July 2006 Posted 12 July 2006 Eddie Guererro's hit me a bit, as did George Bests. George's was probably the more recent that hit a lot of soft spots. His funeral was massive!
Phube Posted 12 July 2006 Posted 12 July 2006 George's was probably the more recent that hit a lot of soft spots. His funeral was massive! Yeah but it's not as if Bestie's wasn't expected, same with Cloughie etc... The shocking one's are just not expected - Lennon, JFK, Diana, Marc Vivien Foe etc... That is not to say the others weren't emotional, just not shocking!!
Lemon Harpic Posted 12 July 2006 Posted 12 July 2006 Only thing is, when he goes all his records will be re-released and end up at No. 1 in the charts and played endlessly on Radio One, Leicester Sound and Heart FM. Sorry to spoil your breakfast everyone. It's like Mark Steel said, the fact that Joe Strummer, Nina Simone and Johnny Cash all died within a year of each other yet Cliff Richards lives proves there is no God.
Dr The Singh Posted 12 July 2006 Posted 12 July 2006 Bruce Lee, I was very young when I got into his movies and was devastated when I found out he was dead...martial arts films have never been the same, especially those with the Bruce Lee look-a-likes!!!
macbeth Posted 12 July 2006 Posted 12 July 2006 apparently when george best was dying the doctor said to him "you've only got 1 hour to live george , but there is good news" "what's that " croked george " its happy hour"
Phube Posted 12 July 2006 Posted 12 July 2006 apparently when george best was dying the doctor said to him "you've only got 1 hour to live george , but there is good news" "what's that " croked george " its happy hour"
Janx Posted 12 July 2006 Posted 12 July 2006 anyone that goes before their time always hurts.. Peel(ticker) Kirsty Mcccall(boating accident) Father Ted... just cos I loves the show so much and he went so unexpectedly(Ticker) Ian Dury, though not unexpected(Big C) Clifford T Ward. He was a gentle type, again mot unexpected (Big C) I got really emotional at Keith's (Weller) Memorial in the Car Park(Big C) To be honest, most deaths affect me now, I think its either age, realising that I probably have less years less than I have lived(mid life crisis) and having children.
