From The Times:

Milan Mandaric will become the new owner of Leicester City this week after the Serbian-born businessman cut short a holiday in Hawaii to complete his £25 million takeover of the Coca-Cola Championship club. The former Portsmouth chairman was enjoying the winter sun when his lawyers informed him that his amended bid had been accepted by the City board last week.

That was the green light for Mandaric to set off on a 17-hour journey that ended with him taking his seat in the directors’ box to watch a match that sparked into life after the interval.

“We are not out of the woods yet, but I am very hopeful,†Mandaric said. “I hope it will be resolved in the next few days. If we want to make improvements (to the squad) we have to make them this month. I am struggling. I was in the air for 17 hours and there is an 11-hour time difference. There is also a difference in the temperature, but you don’t come to England for the weather. I came here for the game.â€Â

Leicester fans will welcome Mandaric with open arms after the businessman transformed the fortunes of Portsmouth before selling up last summer, but the fate of Rob Kelly may hang in the balance with rumours that the manager could be replaced by Iain Dowie, the former Charlton Athletic head coach. Kelly’s team are eighteenth in the Championship, six points above the relegation zone, but Mandaric may be tempted to give Kelly until the end of the season to prove that he can bring the good times back. “I have great respect for everyone here,†Mandaric said. “They are nice people and they support me coming here.â€Â

I hope all this jet setting doesn't kill Mandaric off before he can take over, that would just be typical Leicester City luck. I still think that we are a good couple of weeks away from this being resolved.

Personally, the sooner the better would be much appreciated, I have a rather smug Forest fan waiting for all this to fall through sitting next to me at work.

Today's Telegraph

"As a shrewd businessman, Milan Mandaric knows when it is time to economise.

Having cut short his holiday in Hawaii on Friday to fly back and sign the £25 million cheque for his takeover of Leicester, the former Portsmouth Chairman departed the Walkers Stadium in a stately Mercedes only to jump out down the road to catch the 6.34pm train to St Pancras.

There was something incongruous about the beaming, tanned serbian waiting patiently on platform 3 alongside the stragglers from Fulham. The good news is that he is saving money for the remainder of the transfer window.

"The deal is not done yet", he said. "There's just a few days to go. I hope it will be done by the replay. Time is of the essence-it's the month of January and if we have to make any improvements we have to do it this month. I was very impressed by the enthusiasm of the players and their willingness to work hard"

And from the Independent ... LINK

"Milan Mandaric hopes to have his takeover of Leicester City completed within 10 days, giving his manager time to strengthen his squad before the close of the transfer window. The former Portsmouth owner left his holiday base in Hawaii to watch the club draw 2-2 with Fulham in the FA Cup on Saturday, and wants to be in charge by the time the replay comes round next week.

"It's a little bit frustrating because it takes so much time," he said. "But we have to live with the rules and regulations and when you have a public company such as this it takes time to organise it and make it happen. Time is of the essence - it's the month of January. If we have got to make any improvements we have to do it this month. I'm very hopeful. I have tremendous respect for everyone involved. They are good people here who are giving support to my coming to the club, so that makes you feel good."

Whether those good people include Rob Kelly remains to be seen, with rumours abounding that Mandaric could replace the manager with Iain Dowie. He has been without a job since leaving Charlton in November and is thought to have turned down an offer from Hull because he believed something bigger was in the offing."

Finally my paper of choice chips in !!

Milan Mandaric is looking to building on Leicester City's youthful foundations if, as expected, his takeover is completed in the next few days.

The Serbian-American tycoon was very impressed with Robert Kelly's side in the 2-2 FA Cup third-round draw against Premiership Fulham on Saturday and hopes to make an impact as soon as possible.

It was the second time Mandaric had watched City since launching his £25million takeover bid, and he said: "There are obviously a lot of good young players here, and they need a bit more experience to help them along. If everything goes well, it would be good to bring in that sort of experience for them.

"The potential is there, and I just want to get this thing (the bid) done, then we can move forward."

It was a better result than his other viewing - the 4-1 home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday in early December - but Mandaric said: "In the first half of that game, Leicester played well and I saw plenty of potential.

"Of course, this was a better game and it was a very good match. They obviously have great spirit and a lot of ability, and they deserve to still be in the competition."

Mandaric is prepared to sign as many players as possible in what is left of the transfer window, which means his arrival can hardly come quick enough.

And there are promising signs that the lengthy process is nearing the end, not least that he was at Saturday's game, meeting and greeting shareholders and directors at the Walkers Stadium.

It is understood that the board, having accepted, in principle, Mandaric's new terms, are now circulating shareholders with a recommendation that the deal should be agreed, and it could be completed over the next few days.

There is a possibility of Mandaric being in control by the time City face Colchester in the Championship on Saturday, and certainly no later than the Cup replay with Fulham which takes place at Craven Cottage on Wednesday week.

That would leave Kelly with just over two weeks to complete any transfer deals and City's new era will then definitely be under way.

So he likes what he's seen, experience who? what kind of players is he gonna bring? abroad, premiership?? hopefully we can shoot up the league like we could have shoot down fulham... Come on Ya Blue!!!!

Mandaric is infamous for not paying transfer fees in this division but he pays big wages to get older players to his club.

At Pompey in 03, he had the likes of Paul Merson, Teddy Sherringham, Patrick Berger, Steve Stone and Tim Sherwood on board and they did the job to get them where they wanted to be, the Premiership!

I`d settle for us in getting these types of players that can offer City something for now on short term deals as we need to get out of this division within 18 months.

Lets hope Kelly has identified his targets and that by the time the deal goes through that they havent already moved on!

Then I just worry that his first game will be a defeat, looking at Colchester's home form

Nonsense, we’re going to spank them! Their home record has to end sometime!!

Well let's hope he picks his 'experienced' players better than MAs did.

MA got the players no-one else wanted. Hopefully Leicester will be a decent proposition for players as we will have quite a lot to come to Leicester for ie, Great stadium, solid fan base and one of the best average attendances outside the Premier and money to spend!!!!

Well we had all of that, except the cash, although he did pay BIG wages under MAs

:D Of course. We have to play to our best though. This time last year we beat Tottenham, played Sheff Wed the game after and we lost, after we thought we could get a win. Hopefully the Fulham result didn't.. ' flatter ' us, making us go into the Colchester game expecting an easy ride.

In relative terms, Im sure MM will allow us to pay more in wages if need be. The stumbling block is he doesnt like paying transfer fees for these oldies and some club see them as having a value.

Anyway, the speculation is hopefully coming to an end and we can get to see a few more new experienced heads around the club by Feb 1st. Lets hope its the likes of Andy Cole and Trevor Sinclair instead of the Darren Anderton and Kevin Campbells!!

Hmm. So the FT say that shareholders won't have seen the takeover document until the 15th at the earliest, but the Merc say that MM could be in by the 13th.

I just hope our fans don't expect us to get promoted this season. We have to save ourselves from relegation, and once we do that, we can plan for next year.

People will always think we have a chance as there is always one side that comes from nowhere and ends up in the playoffs. This is a completely different season that now "boasts" sides who have recently been relegated from the Premier who are in strong positions. The likes of Birmingham, West Brom and Sunderland are looking good and we are way too far behind to get involved. People shouldnt get dillusional about us going up but we should get things ready for game one of next season.

I've no objection to older players like that - and like Sheringham, Berger etc but there's a world of difference between class players with a bit of age and the sort of journeymen we've signed.

I'm not especially bothered about the rent-a-team aspects of all this, but I will be interested in the level of Mandaric's supposed commitment to developing Academy players.

Lisa talks about balance and this takeover will represent probably the best opportunity we're ever likely to have to get the balance right. Genuinely good young players coming through in the company of genuinely talented and effective older heads.

Despite my scepticism about the economics of it all I'm looking forward to the consequences on the field because it certainlty promises more excitement than we've had these last few years.

The question I find hardest though is who should be manager?.
