Nightcrawler with Jake Jellyfall. Didn’t like it quite as much as I’d hoped after someone hyped it to me, but it was dark, different and the time passed quickly. 7/10.

We've been having a bit of a LA noir movie season at my house. Watched Nightcrawler at the weekend, and agree its worth watching but not perfect. The highlight so far has been Collateral - even better then I remembered and it still looks amazing.

May I suggest Body Double?

I suppose you already know L.A. Confidential – or Chinatown.

Finally got round to watch Forbidden Planet.

What looked futuristic in 1956 looks rather dated and even amusing today.

That shouldn't distract from the fact that the story holds up really well still. And to see a younger Leslie Nielsen as the lead, I always compare him to Frank Drebin.

Soundtrack's eerie, too. Especially the monster theme is haunting.

The new Street Fighter looks fun. Almost a Scott Pilgrim look about it.

One for the nostalgia and something to give a go without too much expectation.

Yeah I've been looking forward to this, looks great fun

Flic Story (1975)

Alain Delon vs. Jean-Louis Trintignant

Exceptional. The mood (the washed-out colors for 1947), the tension (the little pauses, the looks), the suspense, the hunt for a cold-blooded killer.

French crime thrillers don't get any better than this. With the exception of Melville.

The Haunting (1963)

Could've been a tad bit scarier, but still.. very good haunted mansion movie.

For fans of film techniques, this is a gold mine.

And Claire Bloom back in the day... A very pretty woman.

The Sentinel (1977)

Ok-ish, not bad, not great. Young model moves into creepy apartment complex, a nightmare ensues.

Stellar cast, though. Chris Sarandon, Ava Gardner, Burgess Meredith (the Penguin in the original Batman TV series), Eli Wallach, Christopher Walken, Jeff Goldblum (one year before the Body Snatchers remake), Tom Berenger (at the very end), Nana Tucker (of later Star Trek: DS9 fame as Nana Visitor; at the very end) – and Beverly D'Angelo in her very first feature role (as a lesbian).
