Welsh & Gallagher

Im actually agreeing with Kelly on these 2 signings. Porter is a promising player but its too much to ask for him to be playing 40+ games, seeing as this is his first senior season, and as shown by his performance against Colchester, he does lack a bit of consistancy. Porter should see the signing of Welsh as a positive, as it protects him and means he isnt forced to play every week regardless of his form. Id put Welsh as first choice at the present time but if Welsh plays poorly or is injured and Porter comes in and plays well then he should stay in the side. Competition for places is healthy, and lets face it Welsh is better competition than Tiatto.

Gallagher is a good signing as he can play upfront and on the wings. Someone said his goal record of 12 last season wasnt great, but he played left wing for Stoke last season, so 12 goals for a midfielder is actually very good. When Fryatt is back from injury, would like to see Gallagher on the right wing with either Welsh / Porter on the left, depending on how long the loans are for of course

If I were Porter and I played God knows how many seasons at the club and I was arguably our most consistent player and some loanee who can't get in his own Championship team came in and took my place, my transfer request would be on the manager's table the following morning.

The two are even comparable as far as talent is concerned.

What happened at Colchester was simple bearing in mind he's never been a beat-the-man type winger. His opponent was no mug and Porter well knew he was struggling to beat him but everytime he looked inside for a pass, Hughes, Weso and Johnson were nowhere to be seen.

Porter's 20, isn't he? I'd say he should be capable of playing 40+ games.

Only saw him at Sunderland this season, but he looked really good there. The Mackams thought so too - at least the ones I spoke to afterwards.

If he could get in the gym a bit more, all the better - but let's not hold him back now.

1) He is also arguably not our most consistent player.

2) Any prospective loanee may not be getting into a championship side because of a number of reasons, not just because he's crap.

3) Welsh can beat a man, in fact he beat about 6 on the mazy run against Hull City last year. Maybe Kelly wants another option.

Loan signings should be banned apart from an illness/injury emergency. They are a real insult to the players who are on the fringes of a team desperate to get a chance.

People should remember that guys like Welsh are only on loan because they're not good enough to get into their own side.

In fact perhaps no-one should bother signing players at all. Just register them in a weekly meat market - Premiership/Championship etc, goalkeepers/centre-backs etc and draw em out of the hat at random.

Imagine that. Charlton having Henry and Scholes playing for them one week!!!!.

If that were the case, you certainly wouldn't see COG/LOGAN in the side now and Dodds/Sheehan wouldn't be getting the benefit of first team football now.

You seem to be both for and against the system?

Also, I find the assertion that Porter has laid on 10-12 EASY chances a little hard to believe.

Is it actually possible for any acadamy player to have a bad game ever ?! In the games ive seen him in, he has drifted in and out of games and hasnt created many opportunities. I doubt Porter could get in the Sunderland team either, and thats not to say either him or Welsh are bad players. The loaning of Welsh has given Kelly more options and hopefully pushed Tiatto further down the pecking order

No. Clubs would have to provide a proper structure of their own.

Chances are easily forgotten and I'm certainly not going to delve through my notebook but that's what it added up to whether you believe me or not.

I think they will be good signings. Gallagher can play Left or Right Wing or Up Front im told so he might be valuable to have just for his versatility. As for Welsh, i'm hoping either he or porter can play on the right because i do not want Porter removed from the team.

Welsh is also capable of scoring from midfield, something that hasnt happened this season, even Levi porter

Welsh scored once. Big deal.

He had his one mazy run against Hull and rarely threatened anything similar again once Kelly had added hard labour to his role.

Welsh seemed most effective in the last 20 minutes of games rather than as a 90 minute operator.

If Porter fades, as some seem to think, perhaps that could be his niche.

Not sure why anyone would think Welsh was a scoring threat, considing on his first appearance for us he missed an open goal with the goalie 20 yards behind him, the next chance he had against Luton he sent embarrassingly wide only for O'Grady to have the good fortune of being there to tap it in, and the only goal he scored for us was from about 3-yards out and even then he managed to hit it off the underside of the crossbar!

Precisely. As you have remarked upon, he goes to sh it in front of goal. The one he did score was inches from being an embarassing miss!

But still he's scored as many as O'Grady and more than Porter and Wesolowski.

andy welsh?

is this what we have come to accept

no better than porter in my opinion.

come on kelly play porter , give him a run of games so he can improve.

this is something i cant understand of kelly... pointless tinkering of the team ie, midfield.

no point in bringing in andy welsh. too weak.

as for gallagher i dont know enough about him to comment

Welsh also did very well for Sunderland when he went back to them at the end of last season. Set about 3 goals up for them, which considering they only scored about 15 all season wasn't bad!.

Well, any change, might be a good one!!! A new face in the dressing room and added competittion for places might perk up the team!! Any more news on Gallagher???

Embarrasing that you're all so blinded to how incredibly average Porter is just by the fact that he is a youth team player. And average is being very kind to the little nipper.

He may be average or less in the world of football but in comparison to the other players who turn out for LCFC he is above average.

You're also presumtuous and insulting if I may say so in presuming that people can't make an objective judgement regarding him being a youth team player. This pisses me off as much as those that say I can't judge Wiliams objectively because he's ex Forest.

An insult is an insult however you wrap it up.

It's embarassing that a 19 year old novice has been our best midfielder this season, just shows how bad the others are.

Agreed, Porter may not have set the world on fire, and some may say he is average but from a performance perspective he's been better then the rest. ALthough I thought Low had a good start, but he seems to have withered away!!!
