Ric Flair Posted 13 December 2006 Posted 13 December 2006 Okay and how many times did he waste possession when we might have gone to score? How many times did he give away stupid free kicks in dangerous areas which produced goals for opposition? How many times did he give the ball away in dangerous areas playing a stupidly ambitious ball or just a slopppy one when a simple and effective option was available? If you're going to go an about the goals he made/scored himself, you have to look at it in the context of how many did he cost us. 9 goals and 10+ assists. Find me a midfielder responsible for 19-20 goals in a season and i'll agree with you. Until then, Joey is and was very effective for us last season.
Manwell Pablo Posted 13 December 2006 Posted 13 December 2006 Van Hooydonk If a Dutchman saw the way you you've spelt that he would beat you to death with a clog.
Ric Flair Posted 13 December 2006 Posted 13 December 2006 I'd be tempted to take a gamble on Clint Mathis from MLS. We had him on trial back in 03/04 and Adams decided not to sign him due to the form of Ferdinand. He can play all over the park in midfield and up-front. He's 30 now, but some of the goals he scores are Ronaldinho-esque.
Ric Flair Posted 13 December 2006 Posted 13 December 2006 He's a bit......American Oh shit, I meant Dwayne Matthis from Bury.
OriginalRobboFOX Posted 13 December 2006 Author Posted 13 December 2006 I stand by my original suggestion. Matty Piper. Pay as you play, easy as you like. Slowly but surely just about getting fit, spoke to his dad few weeks ago..... heres hoping...
uncle_connolly Posted 13 December 2006 Posted 13 December 2006 Hi all, Some of you have mentioned Matt Jarvis as a particular player that you would like to see come to the club. I have also heard some premiership clubs may be after him too like Charlton which may limit the chance of us getting him. Heres a decent pic I found of the man himself: Could any of you tell me more about him? I know he plays for Gills and I think he's a winger.. and what do you think the chances are of us getting him? Also, I wondered if we could get Vaz Te on loan from Bolton. He's a good young player who comes on for Bolton in the later stages of games and I was wondering if we could just nick him on loan in January. Discuss - Uncle.
The People's Hero Posted 13 December 2006 Posted 13 December 2006 He's popular with the fans although seen as a bit of a luxury. Talented and knows where the goal is... seen by some as a bit of a fancy dan though. He's a good player, there's no doubting that. Premiership ready? I personally don't think so. Having said that I don't think I've seen him play live so who knows?
potter3 Posted 13 December 2006 Posted 13 December 2006 He's the (equal) top assister in League 1 if it helps
uncle_connolly Posted 13 December 2006 Posted 13 December 2006 Sounds good... What do you think are our chances of getting him though? Gills could be asking for big money for him too... or so I've heard.
loverofinsanefox Posted 13 December 2006 Posted 13 December 2006 Hi, having been in his year at school I would say he could probably be pretty useful if we could get him. Its weird to me thinking hes got to that level already, I think his pace has helped him out greatly. Hes quick, direct and can play on either wing or as a striker. I think to play in our division he may have to develop some more on the ball strength, but hes got plenty of time for that. His pace and directness down the flanks are something we could do with, having read numerous gillingham reports, its clear that many of their goals are from him getting to the byline and putting in a cross. So, yes I reckon he would be a good purchase, but I have a feeling a few teams might be ahead in the queue before us I'm afraid. As for Vaz Te, i'm not so familiar, obviously hes highly rated by them, but I don't think its likely they will send him out on loan with the size of their squad
Jimmy Posted 13 December 2006 Posted 13 December 2006 Sounds good... What do you think are our chances of getting him though? loverofinsanefox Posted 13 December 2006 Posted 13 December 2006 Hes out of contract at end of season, so they may have to accept a lesser bid

Gills could be asking for big money for him too... or so I've heard. Gills will want a bit for him. They are not as strapped as most clubs in that division. I believe they would be compensated even if he leaves at the end of his contract too, so they are not desperate to cash in. Having said that... if they got a good offer, I think they'd sell as I know they want to strengthen upfront. As for US getting him. I believe it's not entirely unlikely, we're a decent sized club and it would be a step up for him, presumably a pay increase and the potential with Mandaric in charge to become Premiership again whilst he should be relatively assured of a first team spot. I'd be making enquiries and getting him scouted anyway because he has been making noises about leaving.

He really does strike a good shot from close range or from distance. Good pace and good technique. It's his overall play I'd want to have a closer look at.
loverofinsanefox Posted 13 December 2006 Posted 13 December 2006 Yeah, I get the feeling sometimes he goes a bit missing in games, but at the same time has the ability to do something and turn the game slightly. We are lacking in someone who can do that imho.

Its strange but I just get a feeling we wont get him but I hope I'm wrong and we do. What do you think to Vaz Te coming in on loan?

Any Player offered a deal as good or better than the one he is currently on cannot leave on a free transfere at the end of his contract if he is under the age of 24. However the result of such tribunals is normally the team losing the player getting ripped off. As Forest found out when he had Williams off them.

Fez of Mahrez Posted 13 December 2006 Posted 13 December 2006 Chris Shuker. Still. Scored a quality free-kick last weekend.
