According to BBC Weather: Monday is the final day of the 1st Ashes Test, and England's cricketers will be hoping for rain. An evening thunderstorm is possible, but otherwise it will continue hot and sunny, rising to 33°C (91°F) at the Gabba.

If Australia hadn't had such a storming first day it might have been a slightly different tie. With any luck, now the first one is over the nerves will die down and the real mettle can be shown. See, born optimist me! I really felt for Collingwood. I'll be honest and hold my hands up and admit it.. I probably wouldn't have him in my Test XI. After a shaky start though, once he got his feet moving he played extraordinarily well. Fair play to him and KP. They take enough stick from myself and others when they bat irresponsibly and fail but in our second innings they both looked good. Nice to see Cook spend some time out there too. Jury is still out on him but I think we saw enough to suggest he might have a decent tour.

Playing Giles for his batting is all well and good, but when you lose by 300-odd runs, it doesn't really matter, does it? If Flintoff doesn't find some runs soon, they might have to think about getting someone else in at 6. As for Harmison, give him one more match - if there's no improvement, send him home. The best chance of beating Australia does come from batting first, and posting a decent score. Twas how we won last summer. It also means Warne doesn't get to bowl when the pitch has broken down completely. Which all means we're clearly going to lose the toss. Dammit!

It will swing in Oz, but not for long as the kookabura ball is pretty she hite and lose its seam really quickly which doesn't help sideways movment. Hoggard did get some swing with the older ball before they declared in the second innings.
