Friendly vs. Mansfield

Recommended Posts

hes only proved he can score against mansfield  he deserves to be on bench on sat though and if he gets his chance he gotta take it.

And Fryatt's only proved he can only score twice against the 15 teams he's played against.

How the hell does sitting Dodds on a bench give him a chance?. He sat on the bench against Fulham (and could easily have replaced Fryatt) but he didn't get a kick and he's been sitting around idle at Leicester for most of his season so far.

Why is it so hard to get some Leicester fans to appreciate what they've got on their own doorstep?. Why does every crumb of praise seem so grudging?.

IMO fryatt was having a good game on sat so didnt deserve to be taken off, RK decided to bring cadamarteri on instead and it didnt work out too bad did it. fryatt and hume are the first choice strikers and rightly so IMO, im not saying dodds isnt good enough but he is at best 3rd choice striker.

why is he not attracting clubs in league 1 or 2 about a loan move? i believe kelly would have played dodds by now if he was ready or good enough.

To be fair, He'll have to score against Mansfields first team if he's playing for Darlington, not the reserves.

Ive always rated Dodds but to be honest I lost alot of respect for him when he tried ripping off the taxman a few years ago. Also he should do something about his teeth.

Maybe that's the reason RK doesn't pick him, and who knows may improve his football if not only his looks!!!

I didn't say Fryatt wasn't having a decent game. But he's a striker. For the umpteenth time and despite some chances he wasn't scoring.

Could there have been a better opportunity to use an alternative striker who might score? Cadamarteri doesn't come into it. That move was magical as everyone agreed.

There is no evidence whatever to suggest Dodds should be third choice striker. It might be he should be first, or fourth.

But this is in not a campaign against Fryatt or about who's our best striker week on week. It's about the needs of now.

Fryatt seems to have worked hard to get his fitness back and I still believe he's got lots to offer us. Every striker has barren spells, Dodds will doubtless have his.

But that doesn't explain a refusal to accept facts. And the fact is we need goals from our front men and they will only come from strikers who've got the confidence to score em.

Mansfield might be belittled as opposition, nothing unusual about that.

But there were plenty of first team regulars who didn't score the hat-trick Dodds got or the goals netted by Gradel and Andy King.

Those first teamers might have played brilliantly and laid on the chances, I don't know or care cos I want all our players to do well.

But those goals suggest players who are fit after being given special Christmas training programmes. and full of confidence.

King's goal confirms my point about him being our most likely scorer from midfield, Gradel's goal from the wing continues his long run of goalscoring from the position where our specialist wingers failed to score in 60-odd games.

And a hat-trick from Dodds suggests a striker who's on top of his game. Why the hell would we want to loan him to someone else?

He can't really do much more to prove he's good enough to be an option for the first team. Hammond has a shocking record as a striker, 49 starts, 40 subs, 8 goals in the league, compared witgh Dodds, 6 starts, 3 goals when he played for Northwich. Yet he will undoubtledly get selected ahead of him when he returns from injury. Hammond's record is about the same or worse than O'Grady's, who most fans regard as useless.

Why is this kid not getting into the first team squad on a regular basis
Hmmm, let me think....what kind of level has he been playing at?

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for bringing in our own talent etc, but I'm not going to get excited until he's scored a hat-trick for the first team.

Actually, it could be sooner than that, but I'm trying to make a point.

have mansfield got a reserves side, serious quesion? its annoying that clubs the size of mansfield can have a reserve side and we cant
It's not the lack of side that's the problem, it's the lack of any league that's holding us back.

I suppose the three goals do make a point for a good quarter on the pitch on Saturday. I'm dissapointed for Weso, I thought he'd in form by now.

I think people underestimate what a hard time he's had with injuries. I hope he gets back on form.

No really, there's nothing to underestimate. You break your leg twice in year and get back to play like he did against Villa. Heroic stuff

Dodds has put himself in with a superb shout of at least making the bench in the coming games. I very much doubt he'll start on Saturday but maybe he deserves a subs place. Bring him on 20 mins to go maybe, at least we can see what he can do. :dunno: Worth a shot

I have to say that I am very pleased for Dodds, King and Gradel. They've definitely proved they can do the business for us at youth/reserve level. They need to be given the chance at senior level so we know whether or not they're up to the required standards. There's no point them wasting their time here if they're never going to be given the deserved chance to break into our first team.

Read a quote from the Stags manager who said that we won 5-0 last night, having been drawing 0-0 at half time. Anybody got any detail of the team / scorers? I know it's harsh, but I kind of hope AJ didn't play his way back into the first team!

A Stags perspective

Stags midfielder Stephen Dawson is set to return to the Stags squad for the trip to Hereford United this coming weekend.... Dawson came through a behind closed doors training match at Leicester City on Tuesday, with the Stags losing 5-0. Stags boss Billy Dearden told the Nottingham Evening Post about Dawson's condition "Considering he has not played for a couple of months, he came through his 65 or 70 minutes well," he said.

"He has done enough to be in contention for Saturday and could be in my final 16."

Dearden was happy with his side's showing, even though they were well beaten in the end "For the first half we more than matched them and went in at half-time at 0-0, even though they played a strong side with nine of them having had Championship experience.

"We made a couple of defensive mistakes in the second half and were punished. We also change things round and tried things towards the end, which helped them to some late goals."
