I fully expect to have egg on my face by close of play but I think Essex made a mistake enforcing the follow on! Providing we can navigate the next 10 overs unscathed we get tomorrow with an not new ball and a knackered bowling attack.

How are they going to be knackered? We were bowled out in 60 overs, with over 20 overs of spin used. And they will have a nice rest tonight and know that unless we score 400 plus ( incredibly unlikely) they have won the game.

Personally I wouldn't fancy fast bowling 20 overs in day like their opening bowlers will have then coming back the very next day with a old ish ball and have to get 10 wickets.

But different story if they get a couple of wickets tonight though!

Struggling big time. I know we have been producing bowlers for a number of recent years but when was last time we produced a decent specialist young batsman from our academy?

In the past I thin batters were given more time to develop and backed, whereas there seems to be a general impatience now. Guys lie Maddy and Stevens were in and around the first and second XLs for ages before they made that breakthrough and became first team regulars.

Maybe we'll give Jamie Dunk a chance in the 40 over cup this year.

Do you mean the 50-over Metro Bank One-Day Cup?

As others have said, every chance that Farooq will make his debut at some point.

We need to give a batsman a chance in the one dayers....Gumbs...and yes Dunk too.

Couple of promising knocks from Sheridan Gumbs though, really showing a bit of gumption. Perhaps a bit too rooted to the crease at times.

I think there is something there for the coaches to get their teeth into. Might help add some bite to our batting but needs to stay off the wine.

Sam Evans never a regular though...Swindells yes....I had such high hopes for Harry

Think Evans had 3 tons in the season he broke into the team. Unfortunately with Azad established he was never going to get a proper go as they were both too slow let alone both together. When he got a few more chances didn't look up to it though.

I had for a moment been transported back to 1982 and the John Player 40-Over Sunday League. BBC 2, after Sunday lunch.

He's a spinner who bats 11 so not sure he will make the first team.

The incessant non stop talking of the main commentator on the stream is unbearable.

Yes. Keeps repeating himself while failing to commentate on the game!

I agree we spent so long getting back into the top flight (which he gets credit for) we have wasted our opportunity to stay there. It’s been a complete car crash, some of which was out of our hands but what a mess we find ourselves in.

Any chance we could terminate A. Patel’s contract and get a quality overseas quick in his place?
