I say yes. As long as there's a live video feed in the bottom corner and the woman are topless and possibly at times practising lesbian sex acts. That is all.

Anyone spending more than a couple of minutes in the museum at Deepdale will have seen how women have been marginalised out of footy whenever it suited the men.

My mum was the person who first took me to see Citeh...and then continued to take me and my brother. I want my daughter to become as immersed in the sport as I am; I see no reason why women should not be able to be match commentators.

For Christ's sake - most of the commentators we currently have are rank anyway.

Sports departments are run by misogynistic old twats (ITV in particular). It's time to open the windows and let a breath of fresh air in.

To be honest, I didn't think it sounded right hearing her commentary tonight. I'd prefer a male voice doing the commentary, however sexist that may sound.

And to whoever mentioned Alan Green, that guy is an absolute legend. He's by far and away the best commentator on both radio and TV - at least he's not afraid to speak his mind.

You'll all get used to it eventually.

I don't see it as a bad thing at all. More girls are playing the sport. Plenty of girls report on the sport after the event - think about the girls of SSN who some of you positively drool over. Even in the US/Canada there was a bird on the Fox Soccer Report and she seemed to know more about the footy than the blokes did! She happened to be a Birmingham fan, too.

Even some of them are playing their part in the running of the matches - much to the bemusement of Mike 'The sexist' Newell'...

Commentators, referees and senior sport officials (senior FA/UEFA/FIFA positions) are the next logical steps for the pioneering females in the world of Football.

One down, two to go. ;)

Has anyone got a reason other than "it just doesn't sound right", which is fairly pathetic.

What more is there to say? If Vanessa Pheltz wore a G String and went topless and appeared on Page 3, we would say "Get her out of the papers as it doesnt look right" lol. This female commentator tried her best but it simply doesnt sound right. She tried her best but her voice was too weak for the commentary IMO.

maybe its based on that one commentator but she was too stop start and didnt have the ability to say the right things in the right tone of voice - i think it is because men see football games different to women, maybe she can learn to see it from a mans point of view (i dont mean all women see it different as some women do see it from a mans perspective) When the commentaator sees it from our point of view she will know what to say when to say it and the tone of voice to say it in - less puns and more opinions. the best commentator is alan green 5 live.

she sounded like she was on a graduate programme and was trying too hard

I thought she was really, REALLY irritating. Nothing to do with her gender, it's just her intonation was really infuriating. I can't really place what it was, she just grated. That said, she was probably scared shitless and having to speak nervous isn't an easy task. I really don't think anyone who's managed to drop the leopard skin loincloth and large wooden club can have too much to moan about. S'better than Pleat.

I agree. To be honest she reminded me of any number of idiots they have on there, it just stuck out more because it was a female voice.

I fancy trying my hand at football commentary to be honest.

I'd love to see a women replace Barber.

Anyone is more competent than that little sissy.

Plus it'd make our club much more sexy.

Ooh, and if she's got a husky voice, even better.

I think he's the worst! Conor Mcnamara and John Murray are better.

He is far too opinionated and I'd much rather listen to Ms Oatley.

Each to their own I suppose.

Stuart Hall- who I quite like by the way.

It was a bit strange hearing a female voice commentating but for God's sake whats the problem? Its only cause we're used to men commentating, give it a bit of time and we'll all get used to it. I actually thought she was pretty good compared to some!

And whoever mentioned Alan Green- he is a LEGEND! :worship:

personally i thought she was poor, forced, cliche ridden and unconvincing. then again i was against it so perhaps i'm bias.

i thought the same thing when i was watching

Half the clowns on BBC are poor, so what diffeence does it make if she is added to the list. Personally, I thought she was just pure average, nothing more, nothing less.

If she should be booted out becase she was poor, then so should alot of other commentators.

Her voice was just not right. You can take the piss out of people like Pleat all day long. He talks shit but at least his voice isnt irritating.

Like when Montella scored. She like squeals out Montella and it just wast right.

Tokenism for the politically correct idiots (Mike Newell).

I am shocked by the amount of people that have a problem with this, I see no problem myself, though haven't heard it yet. I don't think women should get jobs through tokenism because this is just causing sexism, but if a woman is up to the job then why not?

It doesn't hurt anyone, has anyone ever heard of equal rights? So a woman commentated on a football match. Big deal.

Just because some of us don't think it 'sounds right' it doesn't mean we're sexist and believe women shouldn't be allowed to commentate. Far from it - well done to her for becoming the first ever woman commentator on MOTD. It's an achievement she should be proud of whatever comments are made.

All this PC bollocks is missing the point. Yes women should be allowed to commentate, report and be allowed in all spheres of football. But it's hardly sexist to say 'it doesn't sound right' when for our entire lives (and that's all of us) we've been used to hearing male commentators on TV and radio. It will take a while for her, and women generally, to win over an audience that has been used to the status quo for decades.

I for one did not say 'women shouldn't be allowed to commentate' - and neither did most people here who expressed their disapproval. Just because we'd prefer a male voice it hardly justifies the accusations of sexism and PC incorrectness that some of you have made. It's a personal preference, simple as.

That were my reaction to that comment.

Pleat... not irritating?

Perhaps if you're canned he doesn't sound so bad... but most things seem better when you're canned up. :ermm:

Pleat is by far and away the most annoying, most shit-babbling commentator the world has ever seen.

I'd rather listen to a foreign commentator than Pleat, even if I don't understand the language.
