AyewJoking Posted 9 May 2007 Posted 9 May 2007 Read in the Daily Express yesterday a very small article that states we're going for Varney at £1.5 million. The papers never lie of course but would you want Varney at Leicester? Personally £1.5 million seems a little steep but you have to speculate...............

Anyway, we could probably flog Fryatt for about £200,000
AyewJoking Posted 9 May 2007 Author Posted 9 May 2007 If MM is investing £9 million in 3 years then £1.5 million is a significant chunk especially if you think there are better forwards around than Varney.
Guest Chocolate Teapot Posted 9 May 2007 Posted 9 May 2007 I think he would offer us something a little different. He is lightening quick
Master Fox Posted 9 May 2007 Posted 9 May 2007 If MM is investing £9 million in 3 years then £1.5 million is a significant chunk especially if you think there are better forwards around than Varney. That's a load of old hogwash. MM has never actually stated or talked about his spending intentions, only that he will do everything that is humanly possible to make this club a success. I repeat: 'Let The Spending Commence'

Mort Posted 9 May 2007 Posted 9 May 2007 £1.5 seems a lot for Varney... he's a player I'd like to see at the club, esspeically if we're getting rid of Fryatt (be that selling or loaning him out), and we're likley to only have Hume for sure next season and maybe Cada, meaning we'll have no "out&out"striker at the club after we've cleared out (beyond McKay and Odihambo fresh from the academy), somthing in the region of £500-800k would seem more realistic, there are also a fair few decent strikers we can bring in on loans or frees (both Todorov and Hartson are likley to be going for cheap in the summer anyway).
Ric Flair Posted 9 May 2007 Posted 9 May 2007 I hope West Brom get promoted and that Nathan Ellington becomes available for a reasonable fee. I'm amazed he's not been playing that much this season. He's still lethal.
STUHILL Posted 9 May 2007 Posted 9 May 2007 Luke Varney isn't good enough! He's scored some goals this season but when he was last in the Championship, he was very average! I want better than Varney at Leicester, otherwise we will never get promoted! 1.5million is ridiculous too!
Mascherano Posted 9 May 2007 Posted 9 May 2007 you may think im talking bull poo when i say this but Gareth Southgate was seen in sileby the village were varney lives people at my school have all got pictures on their phones of him in his car and others alike. Apparently he was talking with Varney and his agent about a possible move it has also been in the Daily Mirror if im not mistaken. beleive what you want but i feel he may be going up north come the summer. ill try to get the picture and paste then on
potter3 Posted 9 May 2007 Posted 9 May 2007 I wouldn't pay £1.5 million for him, I'm sure we get one or two strikers for that who are better.

Micky Ruddle Posted 9 May 2007 Posted 9 May 2007 Being that he is Leicester born, he will be committed just as much Stevie Walsh was for us. And he's proven that he can score, against anyone (Man Utd - Cup)
Chelve84 Posted 9 May 2007 Posted 9 May 2007 Being that he is Leicester born, he will be committed just as much Stevie Walsh was for us. And he's proven that he can score, against anyone (Man Utd - Cup) if we could get him, i think he would be a real threat for us, because he is so quick and most importantly he can finish.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 9 May 2007 Posted 9 May 2007 Being that he is Leicester born, he will be committed just as much Stevie Walsh was for us. And he's proven that he can score, against anyone (Man Utd - Cup) Dion Dublin was born in Leicester. Line 'em up, knock 'em down. NEXT!
Bert Posted 9 May 2007 Posted 9 May 2007 Over-rated. If he was that good, he'd be playing higher than at league by now.
Milky Posted 9 May 2007 Posted 9 May 2007 Dion Dublin was born in Leicester.Line 'em up, knock 'em down. NEXT! Dublin was a West Brom fan, plus we released him. He's nothing to us, and we're nothing to him.
Geo V Posted 10 May 2007 Posted 10 May 2007 "I'll get you Butler" I think there are better options for us ahead of Varney but any player who has banged 25 goals in 39 league and cup games should be considered at least! I would much prefer we signed a player from this level or the Premiership because signing lower league players is too hit and miss.
act smiley Posted 12 May 2007 Posted 12 May 2007 He's a good player in good form, but I think £1.5m is excessive when there are equally good options around for less. For £500k maybe.
Finnegan Posted 12 May 2007 Posted 12 May 2007 I was sure I'd seen him linked to Premiership sides on the BBC's rumours page a few days ago. I just checked back and I can't find it, so maybe I actually read it in the paper. Either way, I'm rather sure there are larger clubs than us linked to him. Granted, newspaper rumour sections aren't exactly caste-iron fact - but I suppose there's no smoke without fire.
STUHILL Posted 12 May 2007 Posted 12 May 2007 I remember him playing for Crewe in Championship and was nothing special, I think he has just found his level with league 2. 1.5 million as well! I would expect Freddy Eastwood for that kinda cash!
Babylon Posted 12 May 2007 Posted 12 May 2007 That's a load of old hogwash. MM has never actually stated or talked about his spending intentions, only that he will do everything that is humanly possible to make this club a success. I repeat: 'Let The Spending Commence' He did actaully.
