Donations Discussion [wow!]

I've donated £50 in the past week or so to mad fools running and cycling around for various charities so I'm going to hang back and do it when the rush has died down. But I definitely will do it in the future.

Mark is a God amongst men for this place.

Agreed.

I'm unbelievably broke this month for a number of reasons. Some being my fault... but the majority being down to the banks losing over £500 of my money.

Down the line, I will donate.

Very thankful to Mark for not only the money necessary to run this place, but also for the hardwork required in terms of updates/maintenance etc.

 My first post needn't have been deleted

You might or might not realise it but boy you are pure comedy.

I don't think there's much danger of "lining Mark's pockets".

The running of FoxesTalk is an ongoing concern - so any excess money donated at one particular time will just soften the financial blow to Mark in following time periods. But I'm sure you all knew that already. ;)

Well, maybe not all of you...

I would contribute more but I've just given a huge donation to the vastly superior EMC forum. It's THE place for SENSIBLE football discusion.

Has anyone got a link? I can't seem to find it on the net any more.

I know nobody likes adverts and things like that but why not set up some affiliates links maybe on the bar at the top nothing drastic but maybe the likes of play.com and Amazon.co.uk I for one spend a fortune at these places every month and I believe they give you something like between 2 and 4% of the sale.

I for one would be more than willing to go via foxestalk to make my almost daily sorties to these sites

I am sure it would make a few quid and doesn't need to be to imposing on the boards I am sure it would fit nicely between Help and Links at the top

Aye. This is what should be done.

I'd still prefer to have the official word from the horse's mouth. I don't mind donating but it would help if we had a general idea how much it costs to run this site, so we can donate accordingly. A bit of transparency wouldn't go amiss and would encourage more people to donate - if they knew how much Mark had collected and how much he needs.

I'd like to know just for curiosities sake, however I don't think it's necessary to encourage you to donate, it's really Mark's business. If it did 'line' Mark's pocket I wouldn't begrudge him, I've had some good laughs and good rants on here since I joined, it's worth every penny.

Hope that doesn't sound like crawling.

Following requests from Anish and others I've asked Mark about the running costs and what was needed to take the forum to the next level, I attach his response:

The cost of the forum is £280-300 a year. Since it all began I've had to pay that and buy the forum software (which also has to be renewed every 6 months for upgrades) so I've spent about a £1000 altogether, and chose not to make a single penny through advertisements, subscriptions as I felt it wouldn't benefit people's use of the site.

As for taking it up to another level of server, if that was a possibility I'd love to. Search would be on all the time and there won't be any server busy messages! But the prices are totally out of my reach. :( The server that a site as large as ours needs would cost at least £150 month, probably pushing more towards 200. I don't think it's a possibility so don't know if that would be worth mentioning? Even if some people say they will donate, I can't expect people to keep providing money and take the risk of having to pay £150 a month towards it myself.

At the time of asking Mark has received 7 donations.

Huge thanks to everyone that has donated so far.

They'll be no lining of pockets, whatever is donated goes towards paying for this site, and in doing so takes the pressure off me a little. I've never looked to make money off here, this site is about as user friendly as you get!

Great idea, I'll look into setting this up in the near future.

If you could get that sorted I'd use this site as my hyperlink to the likes of Play, Amazon etc

The Amazon link is up on the new shopping page. I'll try and get more links on there eventually but for now, remember to visit Amazon through Foxestalk when buying from there. :)
