Allen releases Foxes fringe duo

Striker Mark de Vries and goalkeeper Rab Douglas have both been released by Leicester boss Martin Allen.

De Vries, 31, has spent the entire season on loan at Dutch side ADO Den Haag, mostly being used in a substitute role. The strong target man played his last game for the Foxes in their 1-0 FA Cup fourth round defeat to Southampton in January 2006.

Douglas, who signed from Celtic in 2005, established himself as City's first-choice keeper during his debut season at the Walkers Stadium, however, the emergence of Paul Henderson last term restricted his appearances in the starting XI.

"I have informed both of them that they have been made available for transfer with immediate effect and that it would be in their best interests to get themselves another club," Allen told Leicester's official website.

Yeah, I saw that too! What a knob!! :nono:

Dundee UTD are broke and can't pay out anything nearing 8k a week, plus they've just signed some Polish keeper whos suppose to be some kind of wizard so they wont want Douglas.

They've been quite heavily linked with De Vries so could see it happening if they could put together a half decent wage packet but as you say, the Grocer's money is running dry. Could see them going for Maybury as well.

Allen rating + 8.5

He has to deserve another +0.5 for this. Neither were ever going to be part of what was happening but he's wasted little time getting th message across.

New total: + 9.

There is much yet to do of course but it is a long time since I agreed with almost everything one of our managers did in what has so far been a hectic week.

As someone mentioneed he does seem to have done some groundwork.

How many will he lose when Louis Dodds isn't named as club captain?

Will be still be in positive territory?

It's great that he's trying to ship them out, but I really can't see them leaving. For a start, no-one's going to want them, and secondly, even if anyone does they're not going to be willing to match the wages we're paying them, so they'll end up deciding to stay here and sit on the bench rather than taking a wage-cut but having a better chance of playing.

There's a club out there for all players, we have got them afterall, someone will want them. Just look at some of the tosh we have signed before who nobody wanted.

If we can flog josh low for 100k im sure we can get rid of deep freeze and douglas.

and like someone else said further up i would keep kenton as back up because i believe he has always proved good back up and done a job when called upon

Hmm, interesting.

I gave him +λ for each of the listings and ϸ for the press release - which I think more accurately reflects the situation

Agreed

Kenton has always played well when needed and unless we sign a few more defenders then i would definetley keep him.

I'm quite concearned about Thracians health, this points system could be extremly difficult to keep up over the course of the season.

(Ball played long by Stearman, Allen -0.5 points, Full backs remaining static Allen -0.33 points, GOAL: Matty Fryatt, outside of right boot from 8 yards -3.00, Dodds sent out to warm up, with mullet in perfect position, looking fully in control of his jog +10 points)

He will sit in the stands with a note pad and mark everything down.

He will eventually get noticed and get his own section in the matchday programme.

Half of that already happens according to Wils.

That's one of the best posts all week! :worship:lol

As for De Vries and Douglas- I'm quite happy. Glad Douglas has gone, wouldn't have minded so much if De Vries had stayed, because he has been a useful impact player in the past at times (and scored more goals than the other strikers at the club bar Hume) but he was hardly going to set the world alight if we wanted promotion. Especially not worth it at 8K a week though ...

What makes ya think we have got rid of them yet? Doubt many clubs are stupid enough to sign them.

There's plenty of clubs that are stupid enough to sign them. Levein's still around isn't he? They're not gone yet, but they will be...

About time! Get rid of some of the crap in the team. Also glad that Hughes, Hammond and Maybury should be going. Did rate Maybury but lost the plot when RK came in :frusty:

I think it's more of a case of we would have to pay the other club money to take these useless 'footballers' off our hands!
