Thracian Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 Everyone - woohoo, everyone...The van is here for anyone that put Stearman in their team Why's that? I've never seen a more assured pairing than N'Gotty/Stearman were against Quorn and would love to see how they get on together against tougher opposition. But the implication that, somehow, McAuley or Kisnorbo are inevitably better makes me laugh. I've been fairly praising of both as centre-backs but that does not blind me to the fact that both are slow and Kisnorbo can't pass. Stearman might not be quite so dominant in the air but he's faster, more mobile and much more constructive. All three are capable of scoring a few goals.

Problem with Stearman is he's not strong enough imo.
Thracian Posted 21 July 2007 Posted 21 July 2007 Problem with Stearman is he's not strong enough imo. He might be a skinny so-and-so but I'm not sure he lacks strength. McAuley and Kisnorbo are bigger but they can be cumbersome too. I've never liked slow defenders and never felt our defence looked particularly watertight all last season. Besides, strong or less so, Stearman looked very fast into the tackle at Quorn and certainly didn't lack aggression, qualities I imagine, which were noted by Premiership enquirers in times past, before the barren times of the Kelly era.

I'm a fan of his, I think he's a good player, I just think for now we'd be better off with McAuley or Kisnorbo.

dandannieldanok Posted 21 July 2007 Posted 21 July 2007 wheres porter in there then??? He is nowhere because he's crap.
Thracian Posted 21 July 2007 Posted 21 July 2007 He is nowhere because he's crap. I don't think Martin Allen thinks he's crap. But comments like that do emphasise what our young players are up against. Makes me ashamed really - just as I was when 4,500 Sunderland fans turned up for the Academy play-off final compared with a busload of players' parents plus about 10 others from Leicester.

It was in Sunderland!!!!!!!!! And wasn't it on a Sunday as well?! Have a word with yourself.

Its silly to think that fans from this club don't want to see our local lads succeed and don't want to support them. If the final was at our stadium are you suggesting that we would have had a few hundred turn up?? Thats a bit of an insult to the guys who support this football club and the silly amount that turned up to games like that one at Hinckley. I think where some of the problems lie is where people like you over-hype some of these young lads so much that when the lads turn up to see them and dont see the next Ronaldinho they kinda they, WTF??!! Maybe you should pipe down over-rating and over-hyping players and allow our supporters to make their own judgments without you going ape shite if someone says anything remotely negative about one of the kids.

Yes we'd have had a few hundreds turn up. But not four and a half thousand or anywhere near. Not only have some posters barely had one good word for any of our young players but several have dismissed people they've not even seen. I've no idea who you'd say has been over-hyped. Most have been exactly what's been suggested they are. Good quality attack-minded footballers well capable of challenging for a place in the first team. None have underperformed expectations other than perhaps Stearman last season and Sheehan between his exile and recent revival. Indeed, the most over-hyped players at this club aren't ex-Academy players at all. Logan, Stearman, Wesolowski, Porter,
bringbackWalshie Posted 21 July 2007 Posted 21 July 2007 If a player gives 100% i'm happy. Akinibyi gave 110% but he was poor. I'd love to see the kids do well but i don't agree with the drinking culture and arrogance that slipped into porters and stearmans game. When young players perform badly they get some slack, when they go out on p*ss every saturday night and give the impression they don't care, they deserve to be slagged off!
Guest ttfn Posted 21 July 2007 Posted 21 July 2007 4-4-2 Nielsen Chambers Kisnorbo (obv he's suspended for 1st game so McAuley) N'Gotty Mattock Kaebi Clemence Kishishev/Wesolowski Porter/Newton Hume Campbell subs: Henderson McAuley Kishishev/Weso Fryatt Cort

Fair enough you state that they're below a Champ team standard but any of our defenders would have looked solid. If we're gonna play 2 centre backs (i'd prefer 3) then it has to be 2 of Kiz/McCz/N'gottz imo. z

That's gotta be the dumbest thing you've come out with... misguided, exaggerated, many things could describe what you've said in the past, but this is the first time that I've thought dumb. It was in Sunderland, I personally think afew hundred is pretty good to what is effectively an away youth team match.
