Notts County Reactions

Or maybe he's an eccentric vampire?

An eccentric vampire?

Don't you reckon that kipping during the day and going out all night to feast on young virgin flesh is a bit odd to begin with?

Hang-on...that's all I ever did when I was first at University so maybe you're onto something... vampire.gif

went to the county game and have been reading the comments and wanted to add to em, this is my first post so be kind!, i'm also a sth, MoM Clemence outstanding workrate and effort, Mattock superb on the wing, Sappleton one for the future, De fries sorry not fit for purpose

Yeah he did ok, possibly didn't get enough time to show us what he can do fully. but showed us glimpses. I was shocked at how big he was. He does not look 17! I found he was also very reminicent of one Emile Heskey, in his stature, & the way he moved, I think that has been mentioned before & I can see why people say it now.

I can't help but think that he is so eager to make a good impression and not make mistakes that he is making all the wrong choices.

That flap he did to palm away a ball that would have been simple to catch seemed to sum it up - maybe he just need to build up some level of understanding with the defence? :dunno:

Judging by the many comments on him already, he hasn't changed much. He's always been hesitant when dealing with crosses, and the rushing out is also a Jimmy trademark. Sometimes it works out, other times he looks like a complete nutter. But his strengths lie in the shot-stopping department with his lightning quick reactions, and it doesn't sound like he's been able to show those abilities yet.

To be frank, I never thought he would be much (if any) of an improvement on our current goalkeeping options, but let's hope he has more good days than bad ones in a city shirt.

personally 1st game ive been to see with 'new look' city side and was quite impressed!

biggest plus for me was n'gotty he just looks so calm and composed on the ball played some nice passes.. he is easily one of the most gifted centrebacks we've ever had at the club (you don't play with maldini and nesta and not learn something!) and will be a massive player for us this season great signing.

clemence looked neat and tidy on the ball got involved played some nice passes made some tackles again a very good signing for us.

hume was just ian hume :worship:

de vries played couple of nice balls, did some good stuff he aint as bad as everyone says but there are massive flaws in his game (i thought was white men who cant jump?)

hellings came on looked lively tried to get involved didnt really have enough time to get fully into game needs more time to settle i think..

logan looks quite unfit which is worrying either that or greens not his colour!

nielson i thought looked ok did flap at one cross and his kicking isnt the best but would need to see him against a better team to see how he deals with more shots on goal etc

kishishev gave ball away a bit but i think will fit nicely into the team..

d.j came on made a chance for himself maybe could have done better maybe being bit harsh tho again i think will be a massive signing for us this season.

newton did some good stuff.. and some bad stuff

hayes looked a bit out of his depth but alot of people were saying he was one of our best players at hinckley give him more time.

sappleton is a huge beast who almost destroyed there keeper when they collided could be immense in few seasons time look forward to seeing him

chambers looked bit unsure at left back i think we will be signing one soon as 1st choice.. when switched to right back looked ok think looks like the type to get forward too which is always nice

mattock ive not seen much of before today and i have to say he looked very impressive when he came on

lee smith im not sure where he came from but def will be gracing the highest leagues shortly! lol fair play to him must have been a great experience just a shame he didnt get a touch of the ball tho.

thing that impressed me most tho was before when keeper and defenders had the ball would just be hoofed up field now n'gotty even mccauley came deep to get the ball then it was passed around midfield and at times we played some nice stuff and it was good to see. also midfield looked alot more solid with kishishev and clemence there and also when wesolowski came on it didnt detract the midfield it looked just as solid

i think with a couple more players bought in and with some of the younger players we have this team could do very well next year.

Good afternoon out.

Refreshing to watch to watch some positive football (with passing shock!) compared to what we are used to after the past few years.

N'Gotty and Clemence stood out for me for the right reasons.

Casino and Hayes looked poor. Hayes looked out of is depth and too predictable while Casino looked all over the place.

Kishishev looked like he would fight for any ball in midfield. Hume was his usual self. De Vris looked slow as ever but made a contribution with his positioning but still didn't seem to want to jump to head the ball.

Mattock looked promising but then they changed their right back in the second half and their sub looked all over the place.

All the subs looked promising.

All in all in gave me a lift and I am now looking forward to the new season with hope which is something I can't say for the previous three seasons.

Only concern is the left side with Hayes, the inexperienced Mattock and a right back playing as left back in Chambers (who improved as the match went on but not sure if that was down to their substitutions or not). Hopefully we will sign someone to shore that up.

I don't understand the worries about Chambers. MA has already said he'll familiarise players with different positions - in other words he'll learn as much about them as possible unlike RK who never experimented and so, never learned anything from what I could see.

Chambers will play at right-back. I doubt he'll ever play left-back except in emergency. But MA will have seen whether or not he was a realistic option just like he's looked at Ryan Beswick in that role. In fact I reckon Allen's learned more in a few weeks than RK learned all the time he was here, what with playing Stearman at centre-back, Porter more in central midfield, re-introducing MDV and Alan Sheehan etc.

Thracian, every single last player in our squad will play some part in the pre season friendlies that does not mean they are being re-introduced to the first team especially players like Beswick and Sheehan who were no where to be seen against Notts County.

I didn't say or imply that MA was only learning about first teamers.

What I said was that MA moves people about, looks at them in different roles.

I've never seen Beswick playing left-back before but clearly MA wanted to see how he coped. Same with Chambers at left-back.

I've no idea what the team thinking was for Notts County but both Sheehan and Beswick have featured a couple of times already and I wouldn't read anything significant into his trying Mattock/Chambers this time.

I think Alan Sheehan and Joe Mattock will be big players next year for Martin Allen. In the friendlies they have played they have both played well, very well infact. I have never seen a defender with so much composure(well not another City defender anyway)as Joe Mattock escpecially at his young age. He just looks so confident on the ball and he is a big lad aswell. Alan Sheehan has played brilliant when he has played down the left wing in the friendlies especailly agianst Quorn he flew by them and put in some brilliant crosses, but this is only my opinion

He seems to have learned more now too, what with Porter not being taken to Scotland, eh Thrac?

Jimmey looks the definition of dodgey at the moment. He might get better giving a few more games, but if he starts the season playing like that he will cost us games until he is dropped. He comes rushing out like a mad man at every oppurtunity a la Rab, and is disgraceful at dealing with crosses.

Sounds like martin hodge all over again!!!

i too thought de vries was poor. yes he gave hume a decent assist but not alot else.

i think sappleton has potential but people round me said he looked injured or he just runs funny. he is huge though.

Great Game - for a moment we thought Heskey had resigned!!!! - When is Fryatt going to learn the off side rule????????????? :frusty:
