Stinkenzo Posted 21 July 2007 Share Posted 21 July 2007 I think its just experimentation from MA. Stearman, Clemence, Chambers (?) and Hume have all put on the captains armband during pre-season to give a bit of evidence to that.

Dames Posted 21 July 2007 Share Posted 21 July 2007 De Vries was quality today. People should stop being so harsh against him. He was always looking to make an early run and lay off a good quick ball to keep the moves flowing. And his pass to Hume was a class apart. Hope he stays if he keeps that up tbh. Ultra Posted 21 July 2007 Share Posted 21 July 2007 MDV showed some useful touches but should really have a lot more physical presence. Jason Lee and Sappleton showed how to put themselves about. Clem and Hume were quality today and deserved their goals. Mattock and Weso also did well when they came on. But Chambers, although quick, is no left-back. We definitely need one before the season starts. And we still need to sort out setpieces at both ends of the pitch.

Cobbo Posted 21 July 2007 Share Posted 21 July 2007 We did some half decent stuff today. Considering it's a new lot playing together it wasn't too bad. Kish showed some glimpses of neat play and Clemence ran it in midfield. N'Gotty looked solid and so calm on the ball, some great passes. I was impressed with de vries myself, has shown a great attitude to bring himself back into contention too. Not going to score loads but set up one brilliantly and nearly set Clemence up for another. Used his body well for both and without him the chances would not have arisen. I wasn't impressed with Nielsen, his kicking was poor and command of area lacking. Enjoyable day on the whole though. However, this was spolit a bit when at the end of the game it all kicked off with rival fans. I dont know why but some old boy Notts fan was going after a young lad so Lisa and me stepped in to stop him and he turned away....I saw no trouble at all last season and yet there is some in a friendly? Maybe a Police presence is always a neccesity.

I wasn't helping a lad on the floor, just another lad who was being chased down by a nutter who fancied himself a bit. Was a very odd event after a friendly. Thracian Posted 21 July 2007 Share Posted 21 July 2007 Chambers was captain when Clemence went of, which I was a little surprised about, considering N Gotty was on and he's had the armband pre season too. It's all part of MA's policy of giving people experience doing the job...and reflective of his "11 captains" viewpoint. In training he emphasises the importance of players talking and geeing each other up. It's another big change really. Kelly's team was one of the quietest I've ever watched. Too often there seemed like no real leadership at all.
Mike the Metal Ed Posted 22 July 2007 Share Posted 22 July 2007 Our new goal music is Chelsea Dagger? Sigh at the lack of originality. Spose it's at least a good tune. 100% agree. The best goal music is no goal music, but at least the PHG has its link to the club. Too generic for my tastes.
teblin Posted 22 July 2007 Share Posted 22 July 2007 Hellings looked alright, didn't do any thing wrong. Made simple passes, didn't really give it away, looked fairly mobile (when he actually ran)
DanTheFoxBhoy Posted 22 July 2007 Share Posted 22 July 2007 Good to see some proper play of the ball in the highlights, nice passing, control and kept to the ground. Hopefully there wasn't much hoofball on display?

Pete_foxes Posted 22 July 2007 Share Posted 22 July 2007 Chambers looked very clumbsy, Chambers looked bad in the first half at left back, but I think he improved alot in the second half. Jimmy didn't have much to do, other than flap at a few balls (abit worrying). Stearman - Steady, showed abit of composure looked an improvment on last season. n'gotty looked steady also.. His long range passing was superb and very accurate. Mcaurley - abit dodgy, for me it definatly looks like an n'gotty/Kisnorbo partnership to atleast start the season. Kishishev, Clemence & Wesolowski I thought did very well. Clemence & Kish probably to start in the middle for me on that game. Clemence definatly a class above AJ & Hughes. I thought Hayes was abit disapointing. I could see what he was trying to do, But it wasn't coming off, Linked up well with both Chambers & Hume on a few occasions. Hayes for me is definatly not a starter! I think the kids got abit of potential, just needs some work. I was impressed with Odihambo, thought he made a few probing runs to put County on the backfoot. Mattock very good also. Hume - same as ever, MDV a few wayward touches, not the best in my view. DJ not much time on the pitch but created a chance for himself soon after he was introduced. Hellings didn't really touch the ball just played a few simple passes.

Do we need to look at another goalkeeper???? Jimmey looks the definition of dodgey at the moment. He might get better giving a few more games, but if he starts the season playing like that he will cost us games until he is dropped. He comes rushing out like a mad man at every oppurtunity a la Rab, and is disgraceful at dealing with crosses.

I can't help but think that he is so eager to make a good impression and not make mistakes that he is making all the wrong choices. That flap he did to palm away a ball that would have been simple to catch seemed to sum it up - maybe he just need to build up some level of understanding with the defence? I do hope your right. Lets bear in mind we only saw 45 minutes of him. I played as a goal keeper last season & I can tell you the hardest thing to be able to do is to catch a ball from a corner, cross or from a free kick, whilst under pressure from opposition players. I think he should of got B*llocked by Stowell for the flaps, I got taught if your unsure about catching, you got to punch it away as far as you can. Jimmy could of easily palmed it into the path of an oncoming County player for him to have an easy finish. Conrad had a few dodgy moments in the first half aswell.
