Daggers Posted 24 July 2007 Posted 24 July 2007 A welcome return to form by Bill Anderson Martin Allen is reported as being delighted with the victory in yesterday's friendly against Scottish First Division's Partick Thistle. “We will see by the end of the week whether our preparations are working or not.†The City boss expressed his delight at a number of things; the performance of De Vries (described as "like watching lightening on a stick"), the relief at having left Stephen Hughes back in Leicestershire and for the re-emergence of Thracian's crap points system. "I don't know how he does it" explained Allen "or why, but I piss myself laughing every time there is a points update."
Daz.I Posted 24 July 2007 Posted 24 July 2007 good result for the lads hope the confidence keeps on flowing now , I really hope we sell de vries he's a lazy donky who's shite In my eyes !
Ric Flair Posted 25 July 2007 Posted 25 July 2007 Posted by a Partick Thistle fan on another forum:"Well yous won 2-0 tonight in a fairly entertaining friendly at Firhill I'd be daft to claim it was an even game and although we created a few decent chances and kept Leicester away for most of the game, there was a clear difference in quality and you felt Leicester could up the tempo if needed. Was very impressed by your left back, No3, looked young but was class. Matty Fryatt was fairly dirty for a friendly however and Martin Allen was forced to bring him off after a cynical foul on our young midfielder Ryan McStay Anyway, good luck in the Championship, I think you may have a good season on the cards" I wonder whether that was Mattock or Sheehan?
Stevosevic Posted 25 July 2007 Posted 25 July 2007 Just saw the goals on SSN, great strike by Odhiambo, on the half volley from outside the box. Good touch and finish by Weso, really hope this will be his season.
Thracian Posted 25 July 2007 Posted 25 July 2007 I wonder whether that was Mattock or Sheehan? Not bothered...it's not the lot we had last season.
Ric Flair Posted 25 July 2007 Posted 25 July 2007 Just saw the goals on SSN, great strike by Odhiambo, on the half volley from outside the box. Good touch and finish by Weso, really hope this will be his season. I am often the first to get carried away by James Wesolowski, but it's only because I know how talented he is. I think he's potentially pure Premiership class and i'm hoping this is his season, he's got everything you want from a midfielder. He scored a lot of goals as a youngster and was often happy to play almost anywhere on the pitch, so I think with the likes of Clemence and Kishishev happy to sit back. Weso could be given the licence to get forward and i'd not bet against him getting a fair few goals this season. A creative attacking midfielder is still required, but I think Wesolowski will step up to this role when he plays. He's still only 19 as well, frightening.
Manwell Pablo Posted 25 July 2007 Posted 25 July 2007 I mentioned earlier my concern about us not picking a creative midfielder like Weso, Porter or Andy King from the start because we would struggle to score goals. It was 0-0 at half-time and the report hardly suggested we peppered the Partick goal.Weso did come on in the second half, we scored two goals to win the match and he got one of them. Porter's been on the winning side twice out of two, played fine, and has looked good in training. But he's experiencing what I expected - a lot of competition for places and particularly from Weso in the centre. On performance so far I wouldn't have picked Porter ahead of Weso. Hammond has been okay - but no more so at this stage than Hume, Odhiambo, MDV and Fryatt (in that order based on goals and assists). With DJC in the wings too that already represents much increased competition for Hammond and I doubt, on balance, that I would have picked him any more than MA. As mentioned previously, the bar is being raised. Hammond remains a fast and dangerous player but with Odhiambo being a natural striker and Fryatt seemingly back in favour he may be climbing an icy slope in steel-soled shoes. Since when has James Wesolowski been a Creative midfielder, he's a ball winner.
Ric Flair Posted 25 July 2007 Posted 25 July 2007 Since when has James Wesolowski been a Creative midfielder, he's a ball winner. I think he can pretty much do whatever you want him to do on a football pitch. I've watched the lad for the past 5 years and when his confidence is up and he's fully fit, he's very good at getting forward and dictating play.
Thracian Posted 25 July 2007 Posted 25 July 2007 Since when has James Wesolowski been a Creative midfielder, he's a ball winner. He's looking much more than that these days... and having real influence in defence and attack.
Daggers Posted 25 July 2007 Posted 25 July 2007 I believe Wesolowski can now also cure the common cold, represent injury victims without them losing their compensation and leave toilets 99% cleaner than other domestic products.

The People's Hero Posted 25 July 2007 Posted 25 July 2007 He's also in talks with Fez about the Mobile Chip Shop Franchise. I thought I had an exclusive on that. Didn't realise he was whoring it out to the market. Unimpressed.
Guest Chocolate Teapot Posted 25 July 2007 Posted 25 July 2007 I am the only one worried by the continued prescene of Marc De Vries up front. It's frightening the prospect of him up front.
Ric Flair Posted 25 July 2007 Posted 25 July 2007 I am the only one worried by the continued prescene of Marc De Vries up front. It's frightening the prospect of him up front. I wouldn't worry, we have two of the most ruthless people in charge of our football club. If, somehow, de Vries manages to blag a few first team starts and he doesn't produce the goods then he'll be bounced out of the team straight the way anyway. If, he starts and does well, then what's wrong with that?
Thracian Posted 25 July 2007 Posted 25 July 2007 I am the only one worried by the continued prescene of Marc De Vries up front. It's frightening the prospect of him up front. No - MDV will be thinking there's a catch!

If, he starts and does well, then what's wrong with that? Quite right. He's there on merit at the moment. If he no longer merits the position then he'll no longer be in it. Simple as that. A better system then what we've had for a long time.
Master Fox Posted 25 July 2007 Posted 25 July 2007 If players such as De Vries, Elvis and Fryatt start doing the business next season, it will just highlight how awful Levein and Kelly were at motivating and getting the best out of their players.

He's not bald Posted 25 July 2007 Posted 25 July 2007 I am the only one worried by the continued prescene of Marc De Vries up front. It's frightening the prospect of him up front. Heard De Vries name shouted lots in the first half last night.....by MA at the top of his voice! Wish I could have got on bet on that he would'nt come back on after half time I would have made a fortune. BTW made me really appreciate the Walker's after going there..awful ground full of sweaty socks!

It made me chuckle, all he replied was with a thumbup and trotted off!
