a celtic fans response to possibly selling Riordan:

Your Comments

o-canio (Celtic fan)

"If he heads south, and it will be a shame if it's true, I feel he should be in the 2-3mill bracket-whats the bets it about 1-2? The sell on value Celtic get for proven players to the Championship, compared to what Championship get to the PL is ridiculous and pretty hard to work out given the players involved, hopefully it's not true as he's never been given the chance by GS, rumoured to be the result of some playground style spat in training between the 2."

In addition, another celtic fans opinion on the player

"he's a good player, but his route to the first team is blocked up here and he seems to hav a little problem with his attitude

he always scores in the spl when he plays tho and id imagine he'd do the same in the championship

he's still young, but he is COMPLETELY two footed with a good burst of pace and an excellent finisher. his volleying is also well above average and he has an excellent first touch

his weakeness is his lack of stamina and reluctence to get involved in team moves, but if he gets a sight a goal and he's not pressured, he'll put it in the net"

From a Celtic season ticket holder friend of mine

"Good Bits:

* Strachan claims he's the best finisher at Celtic Park.

* He does seem to weigh in with goals when he plays.

* The goals he scores are usually pretty good.

* Scored a lot for Hibs when playing in a team that breaks quickly from defence.

* Considered the goal-getting messiah by a large section of the Celtic support.

Bad Bits:

* Comes across as a bit of a naughty boy - bar fights, court cases etc (just found not guilty of assaulting a bouncer a week or so ago).

* Lightweight, lack of physical strength being probably the main reason Strachan won't play him as a striker when we are facing the massed defences of lower SPL sides.

* Needs to turn young potential into regular achiever (in his defense he's not played enough at Celtic to do that)."

Thanks for that.

Can you ask them if he can play left wing at all, or is he strictly a striker.

and another (I worked in Glasgow a while back...)

"I'd actually be quite gutted to see him go.

Never really given a chance by Strachan, strange really considering the effort that was made by Celtic to sign him, however i am led to believe that he recently had a big bust up with Stephen McManus and as 'Mick' is now the captain then there was only ever going to be one result..... the exit door for Derek. Shame really cos when he joined he got rid of his mohican hair style cos he thought it would keep him out of trouble and help him concentrate on his game!!!

He will do well at Leicester as long as he stays away from them dodgy bars/pubs"

He's a striker in his career to date, not left sided as such

2 footed bouncer basher, sounds promising

Maybe,

But a Scottish person’s view on Football tends to be slightly distorted. I can’t take their opinions seriously, not after last time we signed a batch of players from Scotland. Oh, and he looks like Stephen Hughes which doesn’t help.

Just picture him doing something useful with the ball. That'd seperate him from Stephen Hughes ;)

Was thinking exactly the same thing. I bet he could kick the shit out of our Hughesy though

Alongside Hume & DJ we could be lethal on the counter attack.

Celtic star Riordan cleared of attack on two bar workers

ANGUS HOWARTH

CELTIC striker Derek Riordan was yesterday found not guilty of assaulting two bar workers at an Edinburgh pub.

His cousin, Keith Burrell, was found not guilty of one attack and the other charge was not proven.

The 24-year-old, also a Scotland internationalist, had been accused of attacking a bouncer and a bar manager in a store-room at Biddy Mulligan's pub in the Grassmarket last December.

But he claimed he had been collecting his jacket at the time of the alleged assault and did not see a punch being thrown.

Sheriff Douglas Allan told Edinburgh Sheriff Court it was clear there had been an assault on door steward Ben Mallinson, aged 21.

But he insisted there was not enough evidence to say that either Riordan or his co-accused had taken part in the fight.

He said: "It is clear to me that Mallinson was the subject of an attack and there doesn't seem to be any other group involved other than one Riordan and Burrell were a part of.

"However, all four would have to be and remain involved and there was evidence from James Kennedy that all were not involved."

Both men were also found not guilty of breach of the peace.

The case has been heard over four days since it began in mid-May.

He found Riordan not guilty of the attack on bar manager James Kennedy and not guilty of the attack on Mr Mallinson.

He found Burrell not guilty of attacking the bar manager, and said the charge of assaulting Mr Mallinson was not proven.

The court had heard Riordan had been out with his three cousins, including Burrell.

He had been drinking vodka and orange and watching his friends dance to an Irish band in the pub when an altercation broke out between Burrell and Mallinson.

It was claimed the group reacted angrily to Burrell being asked to leave for his "erratic dancing" and an argument broke out.

The scuffle moved out into a stock room which was through doors just off the main bar.

Mr Mallinson had claimed he was subjected to a brutal and sustained assault by all four men, including Riordan and Burrell. He said he suffered concussion and a swollen eye and nose.

Mr Kennedy tried to intervene but he claims he was knocked unconscious by one of the group.

Riordan, now living in Airth, near Falkirk,

claimed he only went as far as the store room doors and did not join the others in the room because he assumed they were being thrown out. Instead he went to retrieve his jacket.

He said in his evidence: "I wanted to get my jacket because I thought we were going to get flung out.

"I didn't want to get into trouble."

Burrell, a barman who lives with his parents in Edinburgh, insisted Riordan had not been in the room when the scuffle with Mr Mallinson and Mr Kennedy broke out.

He said: "Derek was never there - he definitely wasn't in the storeroom. I never seen Derek once in the room."

Burrell admitted to the court he had punched Mr Mallinson, but only in response to receiving a blow himself.

The group were seen on CCTV footage before Burrell, identified by his pink shirt, was picked up police.

Riordan was later asked to come down to the police station after being identified by officers because he was "a pretty high-profile footballer". When questioned, he could offer no explanation for the incident and the court heard that he would only answer "no comment".

After the case, Riordan, a former Hibernian striker who was voted Scottish Young Player of the Year in 2005, said he was "glad the whole thing is over".

Harsh. Most of my dancing is pretty erratic and I've never been thrown out of anywhere for it.

Multiply that by Stephen Hughes though and you get a Derek Riordan being thrown out of every club he ever erraticly dances in.

Are there any good-looking Scottish footballers? I can't imagine the women go wild for Rab, Hughes or Riordan? We're giving the LCGs some pretty poor eye candy here.

Colin Hendry was pretty special wasn't he?

On a side note, Derek Riordan had a better scoring record for Hibs than Gary O'Connor who's now plying his trade in the Premiership. I think we could get Riordan for £750,000 which would be a bargain. Might soak up the excess money we had to shell out for DJ Campbell. Those two alongside Hume for about a combined £3 million is reletively good business.

I'm interested to hear Barton's view on wee Deek.

They are now saying we are not interested in him!

Riordan's Leicester hopes fade

Derek Riordan is still out of the first-team picture this term

Celtic striker Derek Riordan's hopes of a move to Leicester City appear to have been misplaced.

Manager Martin Allen has decided not to make an approach for the 24-year-old Scotland cap, BBC Sport believes.

I hear he likes a bit of wee deek.

He's a right clown as well, always clowning around.

Agree we should sign him though, before someone else signs the clown.

What's with the penguins?
