Lord Nibblington Posted 18 August 2007 Share Posted 18 August 2007 I thought Levi did well when he came on today. But I don't think he's a long term answer to the left midfield role.
Joe. Posted 18 August 2007 Share Posted 18 August 2007 I still believe out of the current crop, Levi is the answer to the left wing problem. Demonstrated today what he can do and is a lot better than anything else available.
crisp monster Posted 18 August 2007 Share Posted 18 August 2007 anyone from our excellent youth set up will be quaking in their boots at the thought of a 1st team call up!! any youngster coming through needs to have some good pros around them to help them settle and flourish into the 1st team set up. anyone think of any guiding lights over the last couple of years? Tiatto maybe??? truth is, Levi came in early and after a bit of promise, was expected to drag us out of our relegation hole and single handedly lead us into the prem if anyone would have been good last year, then they would have been sold. time will tell if Porter will be any good, but at least give him a bit of slack to see what he can do in an ever improving squad. Simi Posted 18 August 2007 Share Posted 18 August 2007 Levi did ok when he came on, Sheehan just wasn't made for the left wing at all. He showed some good energy, his crossing did let him down though at times.
Geo V Posted 18 August 2007 Share Posted 18 August 2007 He along with Hume was the main difference today no question about it!! He definitely played well once he came on.
Cheese Me Posted 18 August 2007 Share Posted 18 August 2007 Too many people with too much time on their hands to talk bollox. What's the point of the thread? He might not be your favuorite player but knocking a young lad who has showed some promise and is still developing seems a bit pointless doesn't it? As for the abuse given to Thracian, once again childish and pointless. He's entitled to his opinion and doesn't need to be ridiculed for it. If someone says that Levi should play in central midfield and then gives a list of what clemence can do and basically saying that Levi can do better and to top it off he suggests that we should spend £5m on Heskey and pay him in defence, I think he does deserve the ridicule! woznotwos Posted 18 August 2007 Share Posted 18 August 2007 So Hayes or levi ?? i havnt seen hayes yet but hes had some good reports . Who would be your first choice on the wing for the Watford game if both are fit??

I don't think anyone would say he's a left winger. I imagine MA wanted some help for Clarke, some stability and some crosses. And if Sheehan's crossing let him down I'm surprised because they're usually a strong part of his game.
TrickyTrev Posted 18 August 2007 Share Posted 18 August 2007 Humour me. Apart from being 5 ft 11 ins what else is it that sets Clemence apart? Levi did okay today. It was nice to have an attacking player in the wide position. Ultimately he can't shoot, has no pace and his vision/passing is no better than competent. He's probably a tidy enough player to make it somewhere, but not here.
Flynny Posted 18 August 2007 Share Posted 18 August 2007 What gets me about this is that even if people think his performances last season were utter shite, the guy's 20, and is under new management. I don't think he's great, but he's a decent enough player and his first few performances were a breath of fresh air. If he can recapture that, it can only be good for us. He was given a chance today, and seemed to do well with it. Hopefully he'll prove a few people wrong.
lildave3 Posted 18 August 2007 Share Posted 18 August 2007 He made the difference today. And as Manwell said earlier, it wasn't that Levi was that good, it was just that he was so much better than Sheehan, or Newton in fact.

As would any near specialist. Just as Gradel would be better than Stearman on the right.

I actually don't agree with Thracian about Clemence and would be happy to tell him why, however, I fail to understand why we have a rule like this and continue to see a daily outpouring of personal insults "levied" by some on here. It aint necessary and I for one would be obliged to see less of it.............please.

Perhaps the message got back to Clemence cos he seems to have had his best game yet in City colours and all credit to the guy. My point was that, despite his reputation, he hadn't played well up to now and that Porter was every bit as good a footballer in his way and certainly as good as an off-form Clemence. As always I hope both of em play well. And that both earn their due respect. PS: Delighted to see you got home safe and sound. Smashing to meet you and hope you enjoyed your break back in blighty. He has more experience, he's been involved with promotion, he's played in the premiership, he has a better footballing brain, he's a better passer, he's a better tackler, he has more composure, he can win more aerial battles, he's a harder worker....Quite a lot really. You replied.... So why hasn't he shown any of these things. Since he became captain I think we've lost three out of four and the fourth was Accrington which we could well have lost.Better player? Not now or at least from anything I've watched. More experience: Inevitably. Involved with Promotion: I didn't say he wasn't good once. Played in Premiership: So have lots of people who are not that standard now. . Better footballing brain: Not seen any evidence. Better passer? Not on what I've seen. Better tackler? Maybe. More composure? You're joking. Aerial battles? Agreed. Harder worker? Porter never stops working. Surely you understand that comments like that about a player who will cost us £1m and someone who had great success last season is so way off that it triggers quite negative responses? Making judgments like that about Clemence after a couple of competitive games deserves flak in my opinion but obviously people shouldnt get too personal. martyn Posted 18 August 2007 Share Posted 18 August 2007 Clemence was the classiest player on display today if truth be told.

Even acknowledging Clemence's reportedly excellent game today those answers were based on what I saw and I quite happily stand by them. If both players hit their best form - which would please me no end - most of those answers would still apply. Same as I stand by my belief that Heskey would make a quality centre-half. Even though you disagree.
