Leicester City owner Milan Mandaric is planning to make a move for table-topping boss Iain Dowie, according to reports. The Sun newspaper suggests that the Coventry City boss is top of Mandaric's list of candidates to take over the manager's role at Leicester City.

Mandaric, who is said to have considered various options including Peter Reid and Gary Megson, now believes that Dowie is the man to lead the Foxes to the top of this wide-open division. Last Updated: 04 September 2007 7:56 AM

Wasn't Dowie one of the top candidates last time??

If he didn't get it last time surely Dowie himself will refuse to come here this time?

He wasn't a candidate the last time as he was manager of cov by the time MM took over. MM admitted the prior to the take over he'd spoken with Dowie.

This has arisen because the media are aware of this meeting and that Dowie is apparently unhappy at Cov, hence 1 confirmation +1 rumour = MM about to go for him.

Didn't realise he was unhappy at Cov.

Any reasons in particular,or just having to reside Near Cov being the main reason :D

He has been saying in almost every interview that he wants more money and support from the board. But equally isn't their a take-over on the cards at Cov? so he'll get the backing soon.

Failed promises about finances, rumours of the takeover on the verge of collapsing.

However, I doubt Dowie would leave Coventry right now. He's got previous for leaving clubs and if he left Coventry so soon and it didn't work out with us, then he'd have really muddied his name. Remember, he's been found guilty in court of lying about the reasons for leaving Crystal Palace.

He needs to lie low for a few years before he thinks about furthering his career with other clubs.

The proposed takeover is taking longer than ours hence the frustration.

It's amazing how the same paper can announce with so much certainty the next manager for LCFC everyday and it's always a different one :D I'm surprised MM doesn't sue them!

Dowie the man for Mandaric

Leicester City owner Milan Mandaric is planning to raid table-topping Coventry and grab manager Iain Dowie.

Leicester City owner Milan Mandaric is planning to raid table-topping Coventry and grab manager Iain Dowie.

Mandaric has been after Dowie on and off since he took over at the Championship club, but has now decided to make an official approach for him.

Dowie - whose move from Crystal Palace to Charlton ended up in court - may be willing to join the wealthier Midlands club.

Mandaric spoke to several candidates and considered various options, including Peter Reid and Gary Megson, even before sacking Martin Allen last week.

But the former Portsmouth chief believes Dowie is the man to lead the Foxes to promotion in a wide-open division.</p> Dowie has discovered money is tight at Coventry and they may struggle to compete.

Calderwood turns back on Leicester

Aberdeen boss Jimmy Calderwood says he has no intention of quitting the Dons for managerless Championship outfit Leicester.

alderwood and his assistant Jimmy Nicholl have been linked with a move south after Leicester parted company with Martin Allen.

However, the former Dunfermline boss told fans of the Pittodrie club he would still be in charge for the UEFA Cup clash with Ukranian outfit Dnipro at the end of the month, but admitted he would need assurances from the board over the long-term direction of the club.

Calderwood told the Daily Record: "Jimmy Nicholl and I love this club and fully expect to be here when we return to Europe and beyond.

"You can never be certain about what is around the corner but we're happy in our jobs and not planning to leave in a hurry.

"This sort of speculation goes on in football all the time. Of course, it's flattering but that's the end of it as far as I'm concerned.

"However, we need to know how far we can go. To keep moving forward, it is vital that we keep players like Michael Hart, Barry Nicholson and Chris Clark.

"We must find out if the finances are in place to keep our best players and build on what has been achieved so far.

"I just need to know what the ambitions of the directors are and Willie Miller (director of football) is aware of this."

If we were to take him away from Cov while they’re top of the league, well that would just be brilliant! Failing to win his first three games in charge, you know the drill....

Yes, you can just imagine Dowie in his nice comfortable job at top of the table Coventry - with all the insurance he's got built in against the sack - coming along to Leicester for a three month stint, give or take.

Okay, the Mandaric/Allen situation wasn't all one way but Mandaric's record with managers generally - both picking them and firing them, plus his ridiculous boast about getting through 20 managers if he has to, was just an own goal to me and no way to persuade any self-respecting manager to risk his credibility let alone one sitting on top of the Championship.

I really can't be arsed to speculate anymore, who ever it is will be out the door before they get a fair chance anyway.

Oh MP that is SO pessimistic.

Most likely true however.

It is getting rather depressing,so much so i think i may have to remove myself from Geo's optimistic Bus :(

We could try the 'Have I Got News For You' approach and have a guest manager each week until he can find a successful sycophant.

The crowd could join in the selection process with in/out cards to hold up during and after the game.

Err no I was at the Reserves last night, I can't remember the last year I listened to the moan in, I don't even bother with the match commentaries when I'm not attending matches.

Partly because it's shit and partly because my ears are fooked, might be different if they had sub-titles for radio :D

The horrifying thing though is I had the same thought as Barber, :o I should have confessed to copying him.

I don't think that's true at all. There are reasons why Allen didn't get a 'chance' and they weren't to do with results. If our next man comes in and doesn't act like Allen allegedly did, then as long as results are satisfactory then they'll be given a fair crack.

Email this Message | Reply It is so, so simple! After a lot of careful thought and a couple of shandies, I believe the solution to our managerial "issue" is quite simple.

As MM doesn't believe in long-term appointments (and has already confirmed his belief that 20 should be the magic number to get us promoted), and as the posters on this site have put forward several names as possibilities/desirable....

...why not do what they did on Have I Got News for You when they sacked Angus Deayton, to the effect that each week we have a Guest Manager.

First week we can have Ruud and his shexy football, then a bit of Warnock pragmatism the following week succeeded by the comical Reid and so on....

We could have special weeks reserved for recently dismissed Premiership managers (Martin Jol and Sammy Lee making early appearances in October), and perhaps in International weeks we could get Guest Spots from the high and mighty as Wenger and Fergy pop down to the training field.

To top it all off, I think the chant of "Present Incumbent's Blue and White Army" has a really unique ring to it....

It may sound a little silly, but then this is the club that sacked a manager pretty soon after the 4-1 thumping of a team destined for promotion....

(only downside to this idea may be the neglect of the flower-beds...but perhaps Alan Titchmarsh may fancy a week at the Walkers...)
