potter3 Posted 25 September 2007 Posted 25 September 2007 Very much in your boat, my friend. It's a nice little boat, isn't it? I'm the Cap'n of that particular boat
Daggers Posted 25 September 2007 Posted 25 September 2007 I would do Law or Accountancy Yup - the world doesn't have enough lawyers or accountants
Lord Nibblington Posted 25 September 2007 Posted 25 September 2007 Do an Arts degree. It's an excuse to do bugger all for 3 years, apart from getting pissed every night, and still be able to get a 2:1 at the end.
Tommeh Posted 25 September 2007 Posted 25 September 2007 i have got to apply at the end of november i think, i still have no idea wot im doing or where im going, should be fun Same here, last minute is the way forward
Lillehamring Posted 25 September 2007 Posted 25 September 2007 oh god, i almost started to fall asleep, all that talk of macros.... things to think about tho: 1. don't assume anything - just cause you are doing something now, doesn't mean you'll want to do it later - i wanted to do art & photography a-level, ended up doing economics and english (dropped out of design) due to piss poor gcse teachers, then was in a band and working in a pub (after dropping out of uni) then worked for a bank, then i got an english degree, now i work for a book chain in norway. - also my bro was a maths genius, but had diabolical a-level teacher and really struggled - don't assume anything. 2. if you do alright re: uni things to think about are a) best schools b) location c) job aspirations d) lifestyle i've known people pick a uni for the quality and ended up in the middle of nowhere, like crewe... 3. the only thing i would say really consider is LEAVE LEICESTER, i went to DMU (ahem, leicester poly) straight from school and everyone else was having a blast away from home, i had to live at home, not the same
potter3 Posted 25 September 2007 Posted 25 September 2007 Getting A*s at GCSE means fook all. Yeah, and you don't always do aswell a in the mocks and stuff anyway, I was A* in Mtahs in the mocks but I got a B overall <_< And failed entirely at AS-level
Dames Posted 25 September 2007 Posted 25 September 2007 IT, Computing, Media and PE is the way forward.
Joe. Posted 25 September 2007 Posted 25 September 2007 IT, Computing, Media and PE is the way forward. What are the differences between IT and Computing?
Bryn Posted 25 September 2007 Posted 25 September 2007 The point about IT being a poor choice of industry is very true. A few years ago it was emerging, and thus needed people and paid well. Now it is very tough to get a well paid job. Media is similar.
filbertway Posted 25 September 2007 Posted 25 September 2007 love the bit about the end user, can you get away with making it up, i hope so cuz ive started mine for A2 and i went a bit off track and got carried away Our teacher told us, your end user has to be a real life genuine person for the A2 one, if you can get someone to test it for ya though you'll be fine.
AoWW Posted 25 September 2007 Posted 25 September 2007 Do an Arts degree. It's an excuse to do bugger all for 3 years, apart from getting pissed every night, and still be able to get a 2:1 at the end. Absobloodylutely!

Dames Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 What are the differences between IT and Computing? Computing focuses more on programming.
Dr The Singh Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 If I were you I would look at what industry could and would make you the most money, aswell as interests!! I work in IT, and graduates are 'two a penny', although decent programmers in .net are very sought after, networkers and system support guys can be hired on minimum wage!!! My brother in law has just recently graduated with a combined math and computing degree, and it has opened avenue!!!
The People's Hero Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 Do an Arts degree. It's an excuse to do bugger all for 3 years, apart from getting pissed every night, and still be able to get a 2:1 at the end. Somehow though as I desperately try to scrounge together another money for my council tax bill, I feel perhaps someone else has had the last laugh.
Jon the Hat Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 I am at the moment paying qualified accountants who are also able to do some programming about £450 a day. So there you go.

Lord Nibblington Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 Somehow though as I desperately try to scrounge together another money for my council tax bill, I feel perhaps someone else has had the last laugh. I rather think that's more to do with the fact we've chosen to do nothing with said degree. Beyond the 3 years of drinking, and decroative placemat.
FilboFox Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 I dunno what you should choose for university... go for the best course. Be warned though that you will miss your family lots if you're like me!
