Football fan jailed over assault

A Leicester City football fan who assaulted train passengers when they asked him to tone down his language has been jailed for five months.

Craig Haldane, 43, of Woodleigh Place, Corby, Northants, pleaded guilty to actual bodily harm and common assault.

A couple from Leicester, aged 60 and 68, were attacked by Haldane as he returned from a football match on a St Pancras to Sheffield train in March.

Corby Magistrates banned Haldane from Leicester City's matches for six years.

The Leicester City supporter was returning from an away game with Crystal Palace and was in a group of Sheffield Wednesday and Leicester City supporters travelling in one of the coaches at about 2025 GMT on Saturday, 10 March.

Hearing aid broken

The group were singing and shouting and the 60-year-old woman asked Haldane if he and the group would mind their language.

Haldane then became aggressive and abusive towards her, and when her 68-year-old husband protested, he was punched in the head several times.

It left him severely bruised and his hearing aid was damaged.

Other passengers then pulled Haldane away from the couple.

The assault was captured on CCTV footage which was used by British Transport Police.

Following the sentencing, Det Sgt Bill Henry, of British Transport Police, said: "What I'm happy about is that as a police service we obtained the best possible evidence that we could, we presented it to the court and that's given them the opportunity to impose the sentence that they feel is appropriate."

People like that not only give football fans a bad name but humans in general.

Hope his parents are proud of him.

And if he has nay mates they should batter him.

Would people seriously hit a 68 year old bloke???

Cant believe what the world is coming to.

Hope the club ban him for life.

(Infact i will email them just to make sure.)

As a football fan I probably shouldn't hate football fans. Oh well. Having said that 50% of the people on the planet probably need gassing to death for various reasons.

Oh yeah....

Still deserves a good fcuking kicking from people who may be able to fight back as opposed to beating up an OAP.

fooking ridiculous he's only been jailed for 5 months. Deserves a fair bit longer for attacking a presumably defenceless old man. What a complete wan ker. And then people wonder why football fans are treated like scum.

no place for that whatever the circumstances.

I must say that having sat through 90 minutes of the worst football ever at Selhurst Park that day and paid for 2 others to attend with me if I was able to control the urge to punch things so should he

The 'gentleman' has been banned from watching LCFC matches for 6 years.

He is a fcukin inbred. We dont need fans like him supporting our great club. He gives us a bad name

43 years old ?

Sheeesh.

He should be concentrating on remaining continent, whether to wax his family saloon at the weekend and how much tax he pays...

Doubly a fool for not knowing better at his age

Really silly probably must have been drunk to hit a OAP, have no problem with aggression between fans but hitting some old geezer is pathetic.

5 months, he'll be out in about a month, as for banning him from watching leicester for 6 years thats no punishment at all. lol.

Didn't another leicester fan get jailed for trouble during the derby match last season?

Mr Pablo got banned for standing up. Not many matches at all! Should have been a couple of seasons if you ask me! And public flogging at half time but that would be too good for him! To make him sit down and behave like an ordinary fan the steward should have shot him! That would have learnt him.

No I serious I'm sure a fan got a few months after trouble at the derby game (at pride park).
