Bert Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 Unlucky Babs. Hope everything sorts itself out for ya!
Kent Fox Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 Bad luck, Babs. You should still see some cash though, but it's long-winded. I hope you find something soon, matey. I've been out since June and really tits'ed off.
davieG Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 Bad luck, but as they say one door closes another opens. If you're good at you're job and not too old you'll probably end up in a more secure, better paying more enjoyable job.
hebangsthedrums Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 Sorry to hear that. Start pilfering as much stuff as you can from Monday, someone I know got a tear urn from a place they were temping at that went bankrupt - they were offered it and thought what the hell!
Thracian Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 Just lost my job after 11 years working at this place, they've gone into bloody administration.Christ what a start to the weekend. It's very much a sign of the times. My accountant son says he's had two companies go down this year and they're the first he's had for ages. He says it shows how unusually hard firms are finding it and, even as a fairly long time admirer of the Government, and of Gordon Brown's management of the economy, now complains that, as leader, GB isn't making things any easier and has totally lost the confidence of the business community even in the very short time he's been in charge. I don't know what you design or how far afield you'd consider travelling for work but if you do feel like sending me a PM to let me know what you're looking for, my son has a hugely varied array of companies on his books who, between them, are often looking for staff. He may know of something that might suit you. Whatever you choose to do, I greatly sympathise and sincerely hope that your luck changes for the better.
Babylon Posted 16 November 2007 Author Posted 16 November 2007 Cheers for the words all. I'm trying to look on the positive side like Davie G said... it could be the start of something good!!! I'm a graphic designer, logos, letterheads, business cards, flyers, posters, banners, signage, vehicle livery etc etc. Think i'll get hammered tomorrow and weigh up my options tomorrow!!! Thanks Thrac, will keep that in mind!!!

What a nonse. Really sorry you've lost your job, at least you've got plenty of experience which should put you ahead of other candidates and make finding a similar job relatively easy. Chin up - go get mullered tonight and have a nice lazy weekend!
lookwhaticando Posted 17 November 2007 Posted 17 November 2007 jesus christ!! yeh it's Gordon Brown's fault. What a nonse. Not wanting to nit pick or derail this topic... but GB has effectively been in power for the last 11 years, plenty of time in which he could have lost the trust of the business community - especially in his former role (arguably more influential as far as the business community is concerned). But anyways, down from the soapbox... Tough break, Babylon, but I'm sure you'll bounce back. Enjoy your night on the razz tomorrow, things will look better in the morning (two or three days later when the booze leaves the system).

Nightmare ive been there to but not after 11 years, on the plus side you should be batting away job offers with a stick with that much experience in your field.

The point my son was making about Gordon Brown was that he was an excellent number two but seems to be a lousy number one and that is reflected in the loss of confidence which you may not accept with but which I don't doubt for one moment.

Yeah Babylon he's definately right. You'll be in there before the new lot released by unis.
Tommy G Posted 17 November 2007 Posted 17 November 2007 I dont think people can blame Gordon Brown for this. if anything blame Blair. Brown has only been at the helm since april and he cant turn things round in a flash, and if you had any prior knowledge of economics/politics you would know this. In terms of economic performance under Gordon Brown as chancellor it has been reasonably good. Gordon Brown has generally done a good job of running the economy, so far. However, it's going to get tough after the election. The budget deficit has ballooned, while the Treasury's economic forecasts look fanciful. So it seems inevitable that the tax burden will have to increase again to pay for Labour's ambitious spending increases. While I agree with spending more on the NHS and schools - I don't like the idea of throwing money at organisations without careful planning. In terms of employment the economy is begginning to slow down. This is mainly due to current high interest rates which discouarges consumer spending etc etc. The interest rates however are set by the Bank of England and not the government, people often forget this. It seems likely that the high street will suffer the most and then this will have a domino effect in other employment sectors. As for loosing your job unlucky mate, i think it will only get worse in terms of unemployment in the next few years. Look on the brighside, our unemployment figures aren't anywhere near as bad as the germans!
