ibbosuk Posted 23 December 2007 Posted 23 December 2007 Sheehan has a sweet left foot good on corners & free kicks, but needs to improve. (Sheehan for me) Mattock is just Sh*te as far as I am concerned.
The Reverend Posted 23 December 2007 Posted 23 December 2007 Sheehan. More consistent and reliable. No thrills, but effective. And obviously his set pieces are dangerous.
lee7 Posted 23 December 2007 Posted 23 December 2007 sheehan can't tackle but he has a good free kick. mattock is ok going forward but backs off his man to much. sheehan just for his free kicks.
Ultra Posted 23 December 2007 Posted 23 December 2007 Sheehan's been the most creative player in the side by some distance this season. Mattock's shown promise but is still very raw. But I still think Holloway should bring another left-back in (Capaldi?) next month and allow Sheehan to play further forward.
RowlattsFox Posted 23 December 2007 Posted 23 December 2007 Mattock for me, I dont think he is as bad defensively has people think but thats just my opinion. I would like to see Mattock and Hayes play on Wednesday because they have looked lively together when we have briefly seen them play together. Mattock seems to play better when he has a natural winger infront of him. We could do with a more experienced left back though, I've heard a rumour that we are trying to sign Tony Capaldi from Cardiff.
lavrentis Posted 23 December 2007 Posted 23 December 2007 I've never been a fan of Mattock so Sheehan
Tommy G Posted 23 December 2007 Posted 23 December 2007 Mattock is poor positionally. Amongst other areas, I would go for sheehan
lildave3 Posted 24 December 2007 Posted 24 December 2007 Sheehan has a sweet left foot good on corners & free kicks, but needs to improve.(Sheehan for me) Mattock is just Sh*te as far as I am concerned. Harsh, very. And whoever said he wasn't getting caught out playing for the U21's has baffled me.
Dames Posted 24 December 2007 Posted 24 December 2007 Both are quite young and can only get better. Both have flaws that need working on so i wouldn't be calling them useless yet. Sheehan has proved me wrong this season but theres still some things he can work on. Mattock is only 17 people calling him shite and useless really ain't got a clue, He will be a very good player in a few years. All in all i'm not fussed with either of them in the side they can both do a pretty good job.
Anish Posted 24 December 2007 Posted 24 December 2007 Mattock has been skinned too often every time I've seen him play, whereas Sheehan hasn't. Mattock has been caught out positionally a few times when it comes to crosses to the back post e.g Gera's header when WBA beat us. Mattock may have potential but I'd go with Sheehan. He's been better defensively than I thought and his set pieces are an added bonus. Mattock's still got years to develop and with Sheehan available we don't need to stick him in just yet.
Harpenden Fox Posted 24 December 2007 Posted 24 December 2007 Mattock. You can't play someone just for their set piece ability especially in at left back. I'd like to see us play him at left midfield though whilst there are no other options, and us try to teach Mattock and Sheehan to overlap as we could then potentially be very dangerous. both should play
Messi Posted 24 December 2007 Posted 24 December 2007 I Chose Sheehan IMO he is better at attacking and better at defending and he has a descent shot on him...i think mattock gets beat to easy and he hasnt got any skill to take people on...although he has his moments and he is only 17... but i think Sheehan is alot better.
Manager Posted 24 December 2007 Posted 24 December 2007 There is little doubt that Sheehan has been more effective when playing than Mattock. However, every manager looks for different things from their players. The sign of a good player is when he can adapt to the role he is being asked to play in the overall scheme of things - Mattock has done this for Ollie. Mattock seems to be Ollie's type of player - when Sheehan begins to show more enthusiasm (looking for the ball, making runs into space, being available for the "out" ball, etc) he could be Premiership quality. It remains to be seen if he can achieve this . . . I voted Sheehan!
Webbo Posted 24 December 2007 Posted 24 December 2007 We've had so many right backs playing in central midfield this season that I'm surprised that Sheehan hasn't been tried more centrally. It would add balance in the middle, he could still take set pieces and his defensive deficiencies wouldn't be so important.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 24 December 2007 Posted 24 December 2007 It seems a shame that Sheehan has been dropped just as he was putting in two of his best performances of the season (Bristol City away and Cardiff at home) - while Mattock seems to have struggled in the last two or three games. Mattock is a work in progress and will go on to be twice the player Sheehan will ever be but at the moment he needs a rest and Sheehan needs a run in the side. Whether the club want this to happen though...
Rocky Dennis Posted 24 December 2007 Posted 24 December 2007 No Brainer - Sheehan! Better going forward Great set-pieces We're desperate for goals
Flynny Posted 24 December 2007 Posted 24 December 2007 Before I read this thread I honestly didn't care either way, but I'd probably edge towards Sheehan now. Neither's as solid as we'd like but Sheehan is certainly a lot more creative and seems more confident in possession too.
Simi Posted 24 December 2007 Author Posted 24 December 2007 Before I read this thread I honestly didn't care either way Get my vote for Most Thought Provoking Poster 08 in early, yeah?

Hullfox Posted 24 December 2007 Posted 24 December 2007 I think I said elsewhere, it's a bit like choosing whether you want to be stabbed in the arse with a bayonet or a sword, neither seems an attractive proposition.
STUHILL Posted 24 December 2007 Posted 24 December 2007 Voted Sheehan but in the long-term I think Mattock will become a move valuable asset. At present wouldn't have either in the side, as long as we could find a classy Left Winger and a more solid LB! All IF's I spose!
