Robbie Savage

And that's the bottom line because Robbie Savage said so.

Derby are set to sign Robbie Savage from Blackburn after agreeing a fee for the Welshman.

Savage is no longer a regular starter at Ewood Park and recently admitted he was looking to leave the club.

Sunderland made a bid for Savage last week and Wigan were also understood to be interested.

But it now appears that Derby have won the race for his signature, and Paul Jewell will be hoping to tie up the transfer as quickly as possible.

Savage is set to meet Rams officials later on Tuesday to discuss terms.

Is that as bad as when Lennon went to Forest?

I think nearly as bad, but not quite! :S

Fabrizio Ravanelli might have played his last game for Derby County, manager John Gregory has admitted.

The former Italian international had an operation on Monday to cure an Achilles problem and he is expected to need at least three months to recover.

That would take Ravanelli close to the end of his contract at Pride Park - which expires at the end of the current season.

The former Juventus and Middlesbrough star is on very high wages - said to be around £40,000 per week - and Derby can scarcely afford that money now they are out of the Premiership.

at the end of the day savage is well past his best and apparently being sold for £2m which is a bloody good deal for blackburn for a 32 year old injury prone player , hopefully we wll get somebody younger and cheaper

Going through the 2002/03 scores, I came across the Leicester City - Rotherham United match report and the following snippet brought a slight tear to my eye:

Paul Dickov and Jordan Stewart scored the goals in the second half to give the Foxes their ninth home victory in 10 league matches.

Derby have agreed a fee with Blackburn for midfielder Robbie Savage, who is now expected to hold talks with the East Midlands club later on Tuesday.

Rams manager Paul Jewell told BBC Radio Derby: "Robbie is massively keen to come. Hopefully he will be at the training ground later on Tuesday.

"This club lacks a bit of devilment and Robbie will bring that to the club.

"But he can also play a bit and he will have a positive effect on the team and the fans. He is keen to do well."

Asked whether the Pride Park faithful will take to Savage, after reports that some fans had voiced a protest against him joining the club, Jewell said he felt their opinion would change.

"I hated Robbie Savage when he played against me," Jewell admitted.

"He is one of those characters you despise when he is playing for the opposition but you love when he is on your team.

"I know there is a little bit of history between Robbie and the Derby fans, but that is the same for him and every club - that is part of his nature.

"But if he comes and plays a part in turning this club around I'm sure the supporters will be delighted to see him in a Derby shirt.

"People do Robbie an injustice regarding his ability. You don't play at the top level for as long as he has, and also for your country, by only going around kicking people."

Rovers boss Mark Hughes has said he is in no rush to sell Savage, who joined in 2005 from Birmingham, and would be happy to keep him at Ewood Park.

"Robbie wants to play week-in, week-out and I can't guarantee that," said Hughes.

"If a situation arises that I feel will benefit us and Robbie is comfortable with that decision and wants to do it, we'll look at it. But no-one is forcing Robbie Savage out of the club. He knows that.

"It's well documented Sunderland have expressed an interest, although up to now they have not met our valuation of Robbie."

That's a small bit of what we lack too!

Yeah and diving for a penalty for us and then celebrating when he got the penalty in front of the derby fans that was funny lol

yeh it was funny at the time, cus we thought he loved leicester as much as we do. obviously not. nobody that really has their heart in leicester could play for derby - iv defended him for years when people have called him a twat. fook him, he is a twat. i hope he breaks his legs and has to retire.

Don't really care. Savage was never one who I thought had any particular affection for Leicester, he was the first one to fook off when we went down.

Hold on, that can't be right can it? The home game v Pompey in 02/03 finished 1-1 didn't it? When Matty Taylor scored that belter. And Trev!

My bad. The 2-1 win in the old Division One was actually against Rotherham (!!).

Mistake corrected.

:o Going to derby gives him one last shout at the premiership, and one more half a season in the prem, before he drops leagues with them, and stay in the champ until he retires  Happens so often!
