Trav Le Bleu Posted 19 January 2008 Posted 19 January 2008 Was pleased that Ollie was able to see where we were weak and sort it out. Aside from that, I'll be interested in what people who went to the match thought when they get back (in the next hour or so I'd guess). Note of interest - Piper said that the Radio Norwich reporter (Alan Partridge?) said that today was the best he'd seen Norwich play all season, and if that's true then that's a point well earned, lucky or not!
Guest Posted 19 January 2008 Posted 19 January 2008 Just spoke to a Norwich fan, apparently Alnwick got booked for using his fist to make a save. Not his fist on the ball that is, his fist into someone's face. Well that's one way to make a save
reynard Posted 19 January 2008 Posted 19 January 2008 I agree but, sadly, it still represents a hammering of mammoth proportions and shows how much more Holloway has to do. How can 0-0 represent a hammering of mammoth proportions? Not perhaps the best result but not the worst either. Agreed there is still a hell of a lot to do though. need a left back and a striker with some pace.
Jon25747 Posted 19 January 2008 Posted 19 January 2008 I went to the game and I have to say we were completelty outplayed for 90 minutes. we had about a 10 minute spell after halftime where we looked better and actually played the ball on the floor but after that we started to panic and ended up playing hoof football. Heres my match ratings for today: Alnwick: 8 Kept us in the game, good kicking, reasonable in the air (punched alot though) and a fantastic save in the second half to keep out a long range drive. N'Gotty: 5 Slow, dallied on the ball and twice had it nicked from under his nose, good reading of the game apart from that but looked his age today. McAuley: 6.5 Good in the air but still some poor passes let him down, had a tough time with Dion but didnt do too bad. Mattock: 5.5 Taken off and rightfully so, had a tough time with croft on his wing but was too slow for him, most attacks came down our left and Mattock didnt cope well or mark tight enough. Stearman: 6.5 Fairly solid performance, and some good forward runs, second half alot of Norwich attacks down his side and he allowed too many crosses to go in IMO. Oakley: 6 Solid first half considering the battering we were taking, lost track of him in the second TBH, not bad performance but didnt stick out for good or bad reasons. Weso: 6 Looked slow and not fully fit, which is understandable. Clumsy challenge for a booking and another in the second half which almost cost him. Good passing at times Laczko: 5 Never got in the game, looked unfit, didnt track back enough to support Mattock, lets hope its a one off. Bori: 5.5 Ran alot but never really had possesion, maybe 1 cross put in. Tracked back more than Laczko but nothing of note to say about his performance really. Howard: 6.5 Good heading and strength, tried to lay others off but didnt always work, ran alot but too slow to cause any worry to opposition defence. Hume: 6 Gave everything as usual but thats not always enough, wasnt always in right positions for Howards flicks and layoffs and I cant remember him shooting or having possesion in Norwichs box. Subs Chambers(Mattock): 6.5 Pace was better against Croft and stopped the high amount of attacks down the left for a while, got forward alot but not on his strong side meant he had to cut back rather than cross. Hayles(Laczko): 7 Marking him purely on the amount of time he was on the pitch he was our best outfield player, he added something which we didnt seem to have, ideas. Even if it was movement for throw-ins. Only real shot on target nearly won us 3 undeserved points. Great sub appearance considering. King(Bori): 5.5 Never got into the game and came on when Norwich where throwing the kitchen sink at us so cant rate him reliably really. Holloway: 7 Not afraid to make changes when he sees its not working, Hayles made a big difference upfront, but maybe should have left it instead of bringing King on, but nevermind because an away point is an away point
Thracian Posted 19 January 2008 Posted 19 January 2008 Holloway puts the point in top pocket! :D Loved that quote. He must have felt like a pickpocket. At least I think that's what he would have felt. I'm presuming. I wasn't there. I didn't speak to him. I don't even know which pocket he put the point in. Bugger me he's been mugged. City lose point between Norwich and Leicester. FA offers reward... Police are looking for a previously pointless geezer who didn't watch the match... Tph admitted he was pointless but denied he was the culprit. Hullfox laughed saying everyone around the Humber already had points, cos there's only a couple of roads. Daggers said he'd already made his point and had not left his armchair all afternoon. So who the hell could have dunnit? All pointers welcomed.

Heres my match ratings for today: =========== Object. I thought you went to the game. How can that be true? Barber said we had two shots which hit the post and almost reached the net. Surely we weren't being outplayed when we had the ball - and in their goalmouth? Is it you or is it Barber, that is the question!!! Talking about Barbar's.... :D

Jon25747 Posted 19 January 2008 Posted 19 January 2008 Ok Ok, we were totally outplayed for 80-85 minutes, happy?! Edit: The shot that nearly reached the net was a "trickler" and was stopped before the six yard box.
Thracian Posted 19 January 2008 Posted 19 January 2008 Ok Ok, we were totally outplayed for 80-85 minutes, happy?! I feel a lot better now. Accuracy is vital when you're not on the radio.
Craig Posted 19 January 2008 Posted 19 January 2008 Crap first half, slightly better second half. Players gave their all, you could tell a lot weren't fit. Especially Laczko, Weso and Mattock. How Alnwick didn't get sent off, i'll never know. He had a good game though, made some great saves, needs to call for the ball more tho.
Maybes Posted 19 January 2008 Posted 19 January 2008 Disapointed with todays performance but at least we came away with a point, a very lucky one at that. Norwich ran the show. Lee croft was absolutely awesome for them and Dion was causing McAuley all sorts of problems. Matt Oakley was again good in midfield but weso and the others around him lacked movement at times hence leading to a lot of hoofball for hume to chase onto or howard to win.

Apart from those returning from recent injury there is no excuse for players not being fit.
Rich Fox Posted 19 January 2008 Posted 19 January 2008 Didnt go so shouldnt really comment on the game but Lazkco was not fit and this was ollys fault for playing him he should have over uled him when he declared himself fit to play. Also this wil nock nis confidance and aggrivate his injury bad effort lads another let down.

We didn't play well, but we got a result at a ground that we rarely come away with anything.
Jon25747 Posted 19 January 2008 Posted 19 January 2008 Yea, I actually left happy! Feeling quite smug that we didnt really deserve it
Guest Posted 19 January 2008 Posted 19 January 2008 We were lucky, but I always say that you make your own luck. A few weeks ago, we could have capitulated. Put into context, I'm not unhappy. Did think that Mattock was out of his depth today, shame following the good week that he's had. Hope that he learns from the experience. The few times that he did get close to Croft, he showed that he could stop him from crossing, but then a few minutes later, he'd be given the bloke all the space int the world again!
lee7 Posted 19 January 2008 Posted 19 January 2008 A point at Norwich is a good result. Not a let down at all.We didn't play well, but we got a result at a ground that we rarely come away with anything. not really. i wouldn't of took a point before the game but after listening to the game a point is a good result considering are goal got peppered.
PAULCFC Posted 19 January 2008 Posted 19 January 2008 Just got back, the most one sided 0-0 i've seen.Pleased to get a point and to all the"fans" that boo'd Dion....Grow up
The Shreds Posted 19 January 2008 Posted 19 January 2008 Just got back from the game - didnt read this whole post so forgive me for going over old ground. Zsolt was rubbish, fair enough he hasnt trained this week. Howard didnt feature too much but he played some useful balls. Alnwick wasnt tested until towards the end of the 2nd half but his saves were really good, good hands, good vision. N'gotty was man of the game for me, great positioning both on and off the ball. Hume steamed up the right channel to find position as always. Hayles had a great turn of speed when neccesary and troubled the Norwich defence Stearman was on and off - some questionable defence but also some good plays too on the right. Mattock played well too. There were some big gaps left wide open and unmarked in the first half around left back position allowing Norwichs #7 find position and the ball very easily - why no-one saw it is beyond me.

The Shreds Posted 19 January 2008 Posted 19 January 2008 Eh? Well I dont blame Mattock - the runs were being made from the midfield position where Zsolt was located, doing not a lot. As soon as Mattock was on the player he defended accordingly, I think there was a breakdown of communication on more than one occasion.

I thought that his lack of experience showed; I felt sorry for the lad, and I hope that he can learn from today, and not get too disheartened, but hey ho!
Bellend Sebastian Posted 19 January 2008 Posted 19 January 2008 How we got to half time without conceding I've absolutely no idea. Norwich were camped in our half. We obviously defended reasonably well as we didn't let any goals in, but I think there was a big slice of good fortune in that, and a lot the defending was pretty last ditch. With no Clem, Wesolowski still seemingly short of match fitness and Zsolt clearly not fit either, the midfield was as ineffective as it was brilliant last week, leading to tons of pressure on the back four, particularly in the first half, and not much getting to the front pair, although Hayles' movement caused their defence problems when he came on. We were loads better in the second half but if we'd had nicked it, it would have flattered us massively I reckon. A decent point given the first half battering

He's still young, time's on his side, his heart was in it though, and thats what we need at the minute, he had the determination in the challenge and didnt go in half cocked and I think he will only get better.
