They'll have paid him the full value of his contract rather than negotiating it down and I imagine they'll provide support for his family until he is in a position where he can support himself ie. can get a coaching job.

No need. He will be paid out by his insurance contract.

Hopefully, for him & his family that won't be an issue certainly not short term and arguebly long term. If he was on a modest (in premiership terms) £10k/week and a 3 year contract, thats over 1.5 Million quid. Even after tax there should be a nice 'little' nest egg for them. Throw in the fact he's been a pro footballer for sometime & may get help from the PFA & insurance payouts - he should be well sorted financially. In other aspects he has had a major and unexpected blow to his life so it is important he does find a new career of course. If some sort of testimonial was arranged I would go as a tribute but would expect all the gate receipts to go to some medical related charity and not the Clarke household. I'm sure he too would agree. FFF
